Great alternative to new android head unit

Firstly very impressed with delivery which took less than 24 hours. The origial head unit has to be removed to get at the wiring loom but the connections are very straightforward and would be difficult to get wrong. I placed the adapter in the glove box in case i ever need to access it. Once installed all the functions of the original head continue to work including the rear camera, although you do have to go into settings to select the factory camera. The resolution of the adapter is not the best but more than adequate and setting up wireless is easy. Because the adapter operates in auxiliary mode you cannot listen to the head unit radio at the same time but you can listen to music from your phone and i was able to download a good radio app to the phone. overall a good alternative to replacing the original head unit with an aftermarket android head unit.

It works, I'm happy, and relieved. And at £180 it was half the price of a Lithuanian seller's

Arrived quickly from a UK based seller. Packaging and wiring are both of a strong quality. And, as the title suggests, despite the Amazon product having no feedback reviews, alarm bells rang, but I did take the chance, knowing Amazon would refund me if it went pear shaped. After receiving the pack, I did ask for help with the installation video that is listed and was sent a link to one for an earlier model of the Toyota Avensis. The Amazon advertisement states 2014 - 2019 Avensis, and so I had a moment of "Oh no, it's the wrong device". Anyway, I took an educated guess on removing the panels and fittings around the sat nav radio unit - taking care not to break any of the securing tabs, but I got there and removed the unit. I plugged the connectors of the supplied mini loom into the only places they could fit on the car's connectors and the back of the unit, and then squeezed the CARabc supplied box into one side of the facia slot - and then fed the female USB cable out beneath the glove box for charging and iPhone connectivity and then slid the Toyota's (Panasonic) unit back in and switched on the car's ignition. All was good after a few seconds and after watching videos online (from other sellers) along with the paper Operation Manual supplied with the unit, I got the unit and my iPhone paired and my apps appeared on the screen of the Toyota unit. Screen resolution is low, but I can now play iTunes, YouTube Music and use Google Maps from my phone, so job's a goodun'. My Touch 2.0 unit had stopped working with iTunes and my only way of selecting music was on the iPhone itself - not good when driving. So this device has sorted it nicely. The reasons for 4 out of five stars are:1) The instruction manual is a good example of non-English first language writing and so is humorously vague (good job I'm technically competent, as I had to use common sense to interpret). Basically, it's so vague, with no stage by stage process included, that you're just provided with 'waypoints' in terms of photos of settings.2) The aforementioned installation video advertised in the Amazon narrative, was of a Toyota other than the 2014 - 2019 Avensis, so it's useless for disassembly of the car's dash board.Addendum - after two weeks' use with the Bluetooth connection, I became frustrated about sound loss when switching back to the car's standard display. The only way I could get the audio back was to stop the car and re-pair the Bluetooth. So, I now connect via USB only, which is working far better. This needed a factory reset, so I was back to the very start. And on starting the car each time, I make sure the iPhone is open and the music app is also playing. This guarantees the music will be audible. Stopping and restarting the car while the music is playing does sometimes result in no audio, despite the app playing the track. So - stop the car, unplug the iPhone from cable, open it from screen lock mode, and then plug back in, bit of a faff if your popping into a petrol station. But once on the road, all is good.Addendum 2 - after two months I have got used to waiting long enough after starting the car, to select the Apple CarPlay icon that appears among the options, and then plug my iPhone in via the USB. This guarantees that audio actually can be heard. Also, one thing that has happened recently, is that the Toyota's in-built collision alert tone causes audio to fail. Yes, as soon as the warning tone sounds (as you drive towards a parked car for instance), any music being played by the CARABC device goes silent, despite the display showing progress of the track.

Only worked for three days

When first installed the adapter worked OK although the resolution was much lower than the Toyota C-HR original display. After three days the unit would not connect to the Toyota system - screen showed the aux logo but would do no more. I tried removing and reinstalling but still the same problem. After contacting the supplier help was nonexistent. As you have to remove a lot of the car facia to access the necessary wiring for the installation (best watch a YouTube video to understand fitting the module) and because of the need to remove so much facia and the continual non functional nature of the item I returned it. If the module had continued to work properly I would have given three stars as the screen resolution was much lower than the regular resolution experienced

Average

The device is simple to install and CarPlay does work well. However, the sound transmission, when playing something on mobile, is delayed than video. Also I tried screen mirroring is not working with wireless.

Great but instructions need work, works with a Hilux

I fitted this to a 2019 Hilux, it works perfectly and has transformed the radio and saved me loads of money on an aftermarket head unit. Be aware that depending on what head unit you have you need to plug some or all the plugs in on the loom and there’s a little switch on the back that has to be changed over depending on the head unit make (says on the top of the unit when you take it out). The instructions are very pigeon English and don’t really explain what plugs need to go in where depending on what make your unit is, but you can’t really go wrong as they only go one way so you can’t damage or cross wire anything. Make sure you run the areal out into the cabin somewhere as this vastly improves the wireless signal for CarPlay and Android Auto. Some people have complained about the screen resolution this is nothing todo with the product but simply Toyota's older head unit which was developed around 2016. It’s perfectly adequate if you want to play music, use nav, message and call. If you want to watch videos I’d recommend getting a new head unit.
