Genuine Moen part

Installed a vanity with a non-vented sink in my Mom's bathroom as part of a total remodel. This part fit great. Now six months later and no issues. The description on this model here on Amazon was much better than those for similar products on the HD and L websites. I don't like to waste time buying stuff that must be returned afterward because the description of the fit or design was unclear.

Just press and release

There's a bit of a story about these Moen pop up drains. I decided to replace the faucets in two upstairs bathrooms and ordered two Moen Karis 84346 faucets. Not knowing that they included the pop up drains, I ordered two, high quality Moen chrome pop up drain plugs. Well, when the faucets arrived and I saw that there were stoppers included, I returned the two chrome ones for credit. When I went to install the faucets and looked at the pop up stoppers, I discovered that they were made of thin plastic. I wasn't going to install those in my bathrooms so ended up ordering the two chrome ones I'd returned. Yesterday, a helper and I installed the faucets and the two sink pop up drain assemblies and everything looks good. I mentioned this in an earlier post about the faucets and I do hope that Moen contacts me. I don't say that in an arrogant manner at all. I was just a bit disappointed that Moen would include a plastic one with such a quality faucet. The best to all of you. As a humorous aside, this morning I ran some warm water into my bathroom sink to soak my fingernails before trimming them. They'd taken a beating with all the plumbing I've been doing for the last week or so. The drain stops worked to perfection.

I can't believe I wrote this much about a drain

I cannot believe I have this much to say about a drain, but it was a learning experience so I'll share. Some things you may want to know about this drain:* The oil rubbed bronze color is lighter than most oil rubbed bronze fixtures. It doesn't look grossly out of place with my much darker faucet, but I would have preferred a darker finish. Most people would probably never notice the color mismatch during normal sink use, however.* The drains are different lengths depending on the color. The ORB drain is 6.5 inches long, which is shorter than most drains. This didn't end up being an issue for me, but you may wish to check your plumbing configuration or plan on buying an extension pipe.* I found a spec sheet on another retailer's website that listed all of the drain's dimensions, which was helpful to troubleshoot potential issues before purchasing.Installation was relatively straight forward. Here are some notes:* The metal nut that tightens against the bottom of the sink is annoyingly short in height, making it more difficult than necessary to keep my channel lock pliers engaged on it while tightening.* I replaced the flange gasket with plumber's putty so that the flange would sit flush with the sink. No issues there.* I used plumber's tape on all metal threaded connections, which I recommend as I had some leaks until I did this.I have never replaced a sink drain before and my plumbing experience is limited to replacing faucets. Having said that, I found the hardest part of this project to be figuring out what push button drain dimensions / features were critical, and then locating a drain that fit those needs. And my sink seems pretty run of the mill. Here is what I learned:* Most important: What is the diameter of the hole in the sink that the drain has to fit through? There are several different common sink hole diameters, and it's critical to make sure that the drain you choose is small enough to fit through the hole. Initially, I wasn't aware that sinks had different sized holes, and the first drain I ordered was too big in diameter.* Important: Does your sink have an overflow? If yes, your drain should have one too. If no, you want to buy a drain without overflow. If you don't know what an overflow is, Google it before buying a drain.* Semi-important: Figure out what flange diameter will work best for your sink. If the drain flange is too large or small, it may look funny or cause water to pool at the drain. I looked for a drain with a similar flange diameter as the drain it was replacing.* Less important: Ideally the color of the rubber seal around the push button should match/blend with the finish of the drain, because it is visible when the drain is open. This Moen oil rubbed bronze drain has a black rubber seal, which blends in pretty well with the ORB and doesn't draw your eye to it.Summary:Pros:* The drain functions well & the quality of the parts seemed solid* It fits my sink, where every other drain I could find on Amazon or elsewhere didn't* Installation was relatively easy, even for someone with limited plumbing experience. Instructions were ok but not terrific.* You can remove the pop up piece to clean out debris w/o getting under the sink* Detailed specs available (on other sites), so that you can make sure it will fit before buying itCons:* Expensive! A fairer price (in my estimation) would be in the $20-25 range. I paid around $47.* The ORB finish is lighter than most ORB finishes, and drain had a small finish imperfection at the edge. This was not a big enough of a deal to send back.

Beautiful, durable products!

Although we paid extra for Moen sinks and fixtures when our home was being built, we somehow ended up with contractor specials for the drains. They were chrome-covered plastic junk. So, we ordered several of these Moen bathroom sink pop-up drain assemblies. We are impressed! Heavy, metal, chrome! They sparkle. They seem impervious to all the scrubbing and cleaning we do. They still look brand new. Very easy to install as well. I highly recommend these drain assemblies. If you know Moen, you already know they are good.
