After reading the reviews on this item I was unsure of the quality. If I hadn't neede it to complete an assignment I probably would not have purchased it. This is one of the coolest tools I have in my collection. It is durable, hold the angle for any drilling tasks I have needed for my projects. This portable drill guide is priceless in my book. Best value for my dollars.

The chuck, the travel rails, and the travel stops are metal. The rest of the construction is plastic. Its heavy duty plastic but this has some effects. The base of my unit for example arrived wit ha warped bottom piece. It still functions because it can be made flat when pressured, but this is not a tool for precision.Otherwise the item works as expected.

I saved a bit buying a returned one. What a piece of junk. Easy to assemble but missing a screw. The chuck is light weight at best. And the chuck spindle was bent on this one. Attached a drill and it shook like crazy when I turned it on. Except for the simplest of occasional drilling I can't imagine this thing doing the job when brand new and undamaged.In it's defense I have no idea how the first person that had it treated it. But the quality of workmanship and materials is still quite low. In 50 years of drills I've never experienced a bent spindle.

I think it deserves 3.5 stars, so I rated it 3 to bring down the listing's 3.7 star average.The holes all had a bunch of flashing that needed to be trimmed before it could be assembled.The depth-stop collar is just a spacer that was threaded radially. The thread cutting process intruded into the collar and had to be filed down to assemble.The molded parts are plastic, but it's glass-filled and should be plenty durable for all the force it doesn't have to resist.It's okay, just very cheaply made and poorly finished. I've purchased other General tools and they were decent quality; however, they failed to maintain that quality here.

For when you don't need or can't use a full blown drill press, this tool does the trick. It is extremely well built. The chuck is of a better quality than that of many of the drills users will attach. Its rotation is so smooth you like to just spin it to watch. Overall a great tool that will last a lifetime for most users.

The product did work for the function I purchased it for, drilling the angled 20 mm holes in cedar stair rails to accept 3/4" aluminium round balusters. However it was a fight the whole way. The device does not hold its settings very well, so you have to constantly keep an eye on the "set" angle. One of the guide rods became detached from the plastic base, so I had to reinsert it often. The chuck mechanism has a significant amount of run-out, so if you have a need for very accurate placement then good luck. The overall impression immediately after opening the jig is that it is flimsy and it lives up to that impression. I got through drilling the angled holes, but realized that the jig was going to be ragged out beyond being usable before I got through drilling all the 90 degree holes for the porch railings. Ordered a Milescraft jig and received it earlier this week. Haven't put it to work yet, but it is all metal other than the knobs, has detents to help hold "standard" angle settings, and is both heavier and more heavy duty. I'll post a review of that device after I put it to use. Since I have to rebuild one stair rail (one of my holes drilled with the general wandered enough that it blew out the side while I was making it deeper) I should be able to review the same operations with that device.

This adjustable angle drilling tool has been handy for to do some of the projects I do at home.

I purchased this drill guide used. With that said, it was missing some pieces.Luckily, I was still able to use the guide with out them.The missing pieces were; the top cap on one of the pillars, the drill chuck key, and the Allen wrench, for the set screw on the depth stopper.I bought a used one for a great price, so overall I'm happy with my purchase.
