Very pleased with this ice maker and saved over $145
Very happy with this unit. Replacement took about 5 minutes. No need to disconnect the water hose or turn off the water. Just unplug the power chord on the refrigerator as this prevents the water pump from turning on the water. Remove 2-3 screws holding the old ice maker then unplug the only cable. Reverse the procedure to install the new unit (which is a direct replacement for the kenmore part number).Btw, my original part number was superseded by another part number which was then also superseded and this unit was still a direct replacement. The only confusing part in the instructions is the water level adjustment. It can't be done until AFTER the refrigerator is plugged back in. Then it may take a couple of cycles to get the level adjusted correctly. The water fills from the back , one cube at a time. The level is correct when all the cube holders have water and are not over filled. If necessary, Turn the water level adjustment as directed in the instructions then wait a full cycle to see if further adjustments are needed. In my case, I needed to increase the water level to fill 3 additional cubes. After adjustment I now get a full tray of ice.

Buy this one instead of the OEM and save $60
I have been using this After market icemaker now for about 2 weeks and have no complaints. It is making ice about twice as fast as my original one did and I saved myself about $60 by buying this one compared to the OEM version. Easy to install using the original screws and the included electrical plug was a perfect match. Just remove the old one by removing the bottom screw and just loosening the 2 top screws. Remove the electrical cord and sit them side by side on the counter. There is a small cutout for the water fill tube you will have to remove (just like the old one) with a sharp knife. Install the new icemaker in the reverse order. I was concerned because when I put it in nothing happened at first. It took about 5 minutes or so then it filled with water and started making ice. Total time took me about 15 minutes. Don't hire someone to do it and save yourself a minimum of about $150.

Good, but what I really needed was a less expensive ice maker valve...
This works well and was pretty easy to install. Unfortunately, I should have done more research before purchasing this to figure out what my real problem was, as this didn't solve it. My icemaker was producing a relatively small quantity of poor quality cubes -- often hollow, sometimes small, etc. It turns out the problem was not the icemaker itself, but the water inlet valve. I also purchased this through Amazon (Whirlpool 4318047 Ice Maker Valve). It was much less expensive than the icemaker itself, also pretty easy to install, and completely solved the problem. As I now understand it, it's pretty common for these valves to clog or fail over time. Youtube is a great source of trouble-shooting information and fix-it-yourself advice - wish I had spent a bit more time educating myself there before jumping to conclusions and purchasing something I didn't need.

Makes a lot of Ice
Thanks to all the people that helped me get the right model #. This ice maker fit perfect in my Whirlpool freezer. Wish we had replaced our broken one sooner. The amount of ice this maker produces is amazing. We had the initial adjustment to make but the ice maker works great. It was very easy to install.

Not quite right
I called the manufacturer to confirm this is right replacement for my Whirlpool ECKMF-90 ice maker. The unit that I received had a cracked cover. In addition, this model did not have the ice cube adjustment dial that my original ice maker had. I was however able to pull the know and cover off of the old one and use it on this ice maker. Also, the kit came with additional parts including wiring harnesses and tubes. However, the none of the wiring harness were correct but I was able to pull the old harness from the old ice maker and use it. Other than these items, the ice maker installed easily and I now have ice cubes again.

Direct replacement
Had to use a mirror to find holes for screw and bail installation. Allow time for freezing cycle to take place after installation maybe 2-3 hours or more for ice formation.

Replacement Ice Maker
This ice maker replaced the original one in my Whirlpool refrigerator which failed after three years. It is virtually identical to the original and half the price of the replacement unit offered by Whirlpool. Installed in less than ten minutes without a hitch and was making ice within 20 minutes (freezer had been off to clean up the mess left by the malfunctioning ice maker, so I think it had to reach the correct temperature again before it started cycling.) This multi-purpose kit comes with a plethora of extra parts, none of which were needed as I was able to re-use the wiring harness and bottom mounting bracket from the old one. I have not changed the water level setting from the factory default. Very satisfied.
