Is this thicker oil harder on the oil pump on a car with 280k miles ?

I don't believe this oil should have any effect on the pump simply because of the synthetics in the oil. But why would you want to put that heavy oil in a car unless you use the car real hard or are trying to prolong a problem. I had a 2000 Accord which I bought in 2006 with thirty thousand miles on it. I recently sold the Accord and it had 218,000 miles on it and never used a 20/50 oil. My car still with regular oil changes and routine maintenance checks ran perfect. It never used a drop of oil between oil changes and I have always used Castrol oil in my cars for over 40 years and never had a problem. I always used the 10/30 or 10/40 regular oil and then when I reached the 100,000 mile mark I used the 10/30 or 10/40 high mileage

Castrol GTX High Mileage has a new and improved formula specifically formulated for vehicles with over 75,000 miles however the product still provides the same great engine protection against sludge, oil burn-off and seal protection as the previous formula.

Castrol GTX High Mileage is a premium synthetic blend motor oil formulated with Phosphorus Replacement Technology, which is a unique, patented, and proprietary additive developed by the Castrol Technology Group. This technology enables the use of significantly lower levels of phosphorus, which helps prevent catalytic converter and emission system failure better than conventional and other high-mileage oils that contain higher phosphorus levels.

Although the amount of phosphorus is reduced, Castrol GTX High Mileage is able to maintain an excellent level of wear protection based upon industry wear tests and provides superior performance in other tests compared to industry standards. This ensures that higher-mileage vehicles using GTX High Mileage are well protected against engine wear, deposits, sludge and other potential issues.

The new Castrol GTX High Mileage formula is available in 5W-20, 5W-30, 10W-30 and 10W-40; a new 20W-50 formula will be available later this year. All grades are API SN; the 5W-20, 5W-30 and 10W-30 grades are also ILSAC GF-5.
