Scherenschnitte: Designs and Techniques for the Traditional Craft of Papercutting Hardcover – December 31, 1899

I saw a tv special where they mentioned scherenschnitte paper cutting in Gstaad. I wanted to find out more about this fascinating art. This book is everything that I could have hoped for in details and images that are simply not available elsewhere.

I am new to scherenschnitte and this was an eye-opener. I wanted to explore this old world art form without too many modern twists because I tend to be a purest so was hoping that this book would fit the bill. There are many modern books on paper cutting but very few that highlight the old world form. It is very old school and precise in its instruction which is exactly what I was looking for.

This book shows how intricate and complicated this craft can become. Has some great tips and pictures of designs that you can copy but I wouldn't recommend it for a beginner. Some really simple stuff would be a good addition as it takes practice to learn how to "cut smooth." Regardless, I'm keeping the book as inspiration and adoration.

This is the perfect all encompassing reference on scissor cutting. It is the best reference for the beginner, including everything you could possible want to know. It includes lots of pictures so anyone could learn scissor cutting from this book. It is great for the experienced cutter. It is full of hints on how to resolve various problems you might encounter. It includes lots of designs to inspire you and/or for you to try.

Amazing work. I'll be taking a paper cutting class at John C Campbell Folk School in March so this is way beyond my skill level but is exciting and gives me something to aspire to.

This is such a great book! It shows many examples of paper cutting, in the Swiss scherenscnitte style. It will both inspire you and give you techniques you need to make beautiful cut outs. This is my second copy. I gave my other one away to a friend who fell in love with it!
