I've tried a lot of chili crisp. Fly By Jing is always consistent and the one I keep coming back to. The XXL size is fantastic too. It's a spicy, salty, garlicky oil full of umami and has a mild heat that doesn't overwhelm or leave your mouth burning. I use it in marinades, stir frys, eggs, ...you name it. I haven't tried it on ice cream, but it pairs well with almost any food. A spoonful added to any can of chicken style soup will add a warmth and take it to the next level.

I enjoy the Sichuan flavor to this sauce, although it's less crunchy bits/garlic and more oil than similar brands. I typically eat medium spicy foods and tried both the regular spicy of this brand (I would rate not spicy enough) and the Xtra spicy - the Xtra spicy is definitely spicy enough. I would rate it the perfect spice level as I don't feel compelled to add too much of it, but it brings that Sichuan flavor and good heat. Better value if on sale (it's a pretty small jar)

I got the X-Tra Spicy Chili Crisp because it was EBT eligible and the regular Sichuan Chili Crisp was not at the time I ordered. I was hoping it wasn't too spicy because while I do like spicy food, I know a lot of stuff that's labeled as extra spicy tends to be overly hot with no flavor, and I don't generally like stuff that's hot just to be hot or for bragging rights. I also noticed some people's reviews showing their deliveries had leaked and I was concerned about that. Mine did not, and there was definitely a "pop" when I opened my jar. This was my first time buying any kind of chili crisp product. I'd seen lots of hype and kudos about the Sichuan Chili Crisp and decided I wanted to give it a try. I've had house chili oils at ramen restaurants and I've had other types of chili oil hot sauces (Tomasa Hot Sauce, I highly recommend it!). I opened the jar and was met with a very pungent smell. I did read that it had preserved black beans and mushroom powder in it and you can definitely tell. I made sure to fully stir up the jar. I decided to taste the oil from the spoon just to gauge the heat and see if it was going to hot for my liking and overpower any flavor it might have. I definitely tasted the flavor (with the concentration of the smell it would be hard not to) but the oil did come off pretty hot and hit me a bit in the back of the throat. I decided to try this on a Birria and Cheese pupusa from Costco. I figured the heat would be good with this and I know what the flavors are to have a good base line. What sorcery is this chili crisp? The heat wasn't so intense anymore. But the flavors that were there suddenly were more intense and enhanced the flavor of the pupusa so much more than any of the other hot sauces I've had them with. I'm honestly shocked that the heat level seemed diminished. It was noticeable before. Now I don't notice it. Maybe because I had already tasted it, I was already used to it. But the flavors it added were amazing and I'm still tasting the combination 10 minutes later. I'm excited to try this on other foods like pizza. I have some dumplings in the freezer too I'd like to try it with. Eggs are a no brainer. I still want to try the original Sichuan Chili Crisp, but the X-Tra Spicy was delicious and honestly surprised me in how it transformed once I added it to food. I'd definitely buy it again.

Delicious. Addictive. Perfection. Xtra spicy is quite spicy but not enough to smoke you out. Doesn't leak and seals well. Crunchy and squishy texture both at the same time.

Sure this stuff is a bit expensive, but it is delicious and nothing else really compares to the taste. I have used and bought several chili crisps now and although I do like all of them for different reasons, this one has a very unique taste and is perfect for ramens, stir fry, kimbap, rice bowls, etc. I also really like it on pizza, although I have yet to try it on ice cream. I will say you get a lot more oil to chili crisp ratio in the Fly By Jing compared to some other brands that are more chili crisp with less oil and the chilis are finer and more mashed, so a softer texture and less crunch, but it has a very unique taste to it. It is worth getting the larger size - much better value as it lasts forever in the fridge. Not too hot - there is a hotter version, but I prefer the original for versatility.
