Buildings across Time: An Introduction to World Architecture

Everyone should read this book. The elaborate history discussed in full detail with some pictures in color and quality make this book so wonderful. I'll say though that some things needed explained better while other things needed pictures instead of or in addition to the text description. I didn't really like the way the book was arranged either like how the Americas and Africa were one chapter instead of two. In general, I found the chapters to be too long, which is not saying to remove material but just calling for a rearrangement of material into more specific chapters. Still though, very amazing book to greatly expand your knowledge about the world history of architecture, from famous buildings to general construction methods. I don't know how this book compares to later editions or competitor books, I just used it for university courses, but used copies are under $10 now so that's a great price for this. My used copy was in perfect shape on the inside while the outside showed some wear.Physically, this book is very good and very big. The paper for the cover and pages are of very good quality with fine ink and color for crisp text and detailed photographs. The binding is excellent. The page arrangement was quite nice too with good margin sizes and such. I don't like double column books usually but the font is small enough to work out nicely with the double columns.

I'm reading this book as requirement for a history class in an Architecture undergrad program. I'm sure most who will buy this book will read it for the same or a similar reason. I'm only through the first 1/4 of the book. It's full of pictures and descriptions of notable structures in a given time period and well organized chronologically. It seems the authors avoid drawing fully developed conclusions that explain the purpose for many early structures/dwellings. Maybe omitting this type of conjecture keeps things more factual. I get a dose of the "theories" in lectures on the subject, and that makes the reading much more interesting.

I got my list of books I needed for the upcoming semester and wondered how I could pay for all of it. This book cost much less than I could find it elsewhere for, even though it is used, I almost can't tell. It said it was in very good condition and it is. I have not used the book yet, but the book was in the exact condition the seller said it was, very reliable, and came quickly.

A large text comprising of great buildings and commentary on them. Was very enjoyable to have to read.

this is a vey good book, although it is basically identical to A world history of Architecture and A global history of Architecture. If you have any one of these you don’t need the others. Global history and A world of history are the same three writers.

I read the previous review about how there are two versions of this book with two different titles and two different prices, but I just wanted to double check. I purchased both to double check and the reviews were correct.This book cost $85 and is paperback with no CD"A World History of Architecture" - 2nd edition is half the price and a hardback version.I skimmed the pages and it is the SAME EXACT BOOK down to the page numbers.
