NokiaLumia 635 UK SIM-Free Smartphone - Black

I’ve delayed my review of this phone as I’ve been waiting for an unlock code for it ? more at the end.This is my first venture into Windows phones and have been pleasantly surprised by the ease of use. The phone works well and has no lag with this version having the 1 GB RAM upgrade.Although the screen res is low by today’s standards it is very bright and is easy to read text even with the smallest of writing. Using the dark background mode it’s very easy on the eye but this time of the year I can’t really say what it is like outside on a sunny day but with the white writing on a black background I can’t see there being any problems with it.My main use for this phone as it’s not my main phone is to feed data to the live traffic updates on my Tom-Tom satnav and this it does very well with no problems with connecting and sharing the data using the phones Bluetooth tethering / internet sharing mode. This mode has only been added with the update to W8.1 as even the Tom-Tom manufactures have not acknowledge yet that Windows phones work with their satnaves.The downside to Windows phones is the lack of apps, hence why it’s not my main phone, but this is improving by the day and this does not reflect on the greatness of this phone.Now I’m at the end I will come back to unlocking of this phone and a warning plus a tip?I don’t like my phones being locked even if I do intend to use them on the network its locked to but others maybe happy and not even realised they are locked but anyway here’s my warning if you intend to unlock this phone from the EE network and this one caught me out; the unlock code via E-Bay and other outlets is over £22 if its locked to EE UK but only £3 is its locked to Vodafone or o2 and this I never realised until I got the phone home so I was a bit peeved by this but this is my tip for getting the phone unlocked more or less for free.This is how it’s done, the phone comes with a £10 bundle and EE will unlock their PAYG phones for £8-99. Do not put the sim in a phone and start making calls or doing text as this will automatically start the bundle and your balance will be zeroed. Go to the EE web site and make an account with the number on the sim that has the £10 credit then after logging in you will find somewhere on the EE site a form to fill in to unlock your phone and after a day or two your balance will go down to £1-01p so then you know your order has gone through.The bad news is it takes awhile before you get the code back, it says up to 10 days but after the tenth day I had an e-mail saying they could not get the code from their data base and were having to go back to Nokia to get the code so there’s a delay but be patient because it will come through a few days later. Overall I think it took nearly 3 weeks but this does work.If you want cheaper PAYG rates but don’t want to flaff about with unlocking then I found the Post Office network sims work fine as they are an EE MNVO network but be warned so is the Delight network who have even cheaper rates but even though they also use the EE network the has to be unlocked to work on that one.

Really good smart phone, but my only issue with the phone is the instruction wasn’t clear on how to open the phone to be able to fix the sim. I had to check YouTube before I was able to open it.

This was sold as new and sim free however it was a branded AT and T phone. The case was a yellow case that had been painted to make it black. The paint quickly flaked off and the case itself quickly cracked wither because it was old or because it had been painted. I suspect the phone was a refurbished secnd hand phone. Really disappointed.

Returned phone, it will not connect to internet due to it being windows 8, needs windows 10. Can not be upgraded. They charge £69 for a phone which you can only use for calls and txt

Very good service from RMA Technologies. ordered the phone on Friday and received it on Monday, with express delivery option.Contacted RMA Technologies with a query and received helpful advice. Phone is what i expected as its my 3rd Nokia phone.Great phone easy to use. Would buy again.

Decent smartphone but don't expect to download all those apps which you'll get from android OS. For instance, "whats app". Very good for business use.

Bought as a gift for the 'mother in law'. Easy to use, uncomplicated and ideal for people who don't need loads of apps (can only get apps from Windows store and there aren't as many as Android or Apple). Not the first time I've got one for aging, technophobic relatives and after the original dread of something new, they quickly come around to the ease of use and wonder why they never got one themselves before. Highly recommend.
