Would this be adequate for picking up a 30-40 lb salmon?

Does good on 10 to 20 lb striped bass. Not sure about 40 lb fish. I like the tool alot.

What is the difference between the Original and Limited Edition versions?

Beer nuts are about $1.69 and deer nuts are under a buck.

Locks like a vise grip pliers? can you lock it closes to fit in vest pocket or does it stay open?

Hey JC, you can lock these closed for sure but it depends how big of a pocket you have! Most fishermans vests this would fit in. - ReelHookedCo.

Does this work with a fish scale?

All you do is hook your scale through either the ring or through the grips do it all the time to keep Blues from shredding my hand.
