Vortex Windproof Compact Travel Umbrella, Auto Open Close

I have had multiple umbrellas over the years, and this is by far my favorite. When folded, it is compact and easy to carry. I particularly like the feature that automatically opens and closes the umbrella with a push of a button. When opened, it is large enough to keep the rain and snow off of me. It appears to be constructed of quality materials and should last me for many years.

It's a good umbrella, but it just doesn't measure up to my old 2 person ShedRain. It's too small, for one thing, and the shaft too short to be comfortable to me. See my umbrella on the left and the new one on the right. I have owned my 2 person version with this handle style for about 6 years. The newer large ones are heavier than my old standby, which I was looking to get a second one of, and this one is smaller. If you like the smaller "standard" size of umbrella, it will likely serve you very well.

I needed a compact umbrella for a trip but hesitated to buy yet another umbrella that would break after one or two uses. This one touted a special design that intrigued me and they stand behind it with a lifetime guarantee; which tells me they are confident that it will not break. It arrived super-fast and it is a sturdy, great quality umbrella. The color I bought, a wisteria-colored purple, is very nice. I did find that if you use it, then release it to come down, you can't just pop it back up without fully engaging it back into the handle first. In other words, you can't just rest it down and then raise it up again; you have to fully close it or it won't lock open. I think that may be why the reviewers that said it only worked once or twice thought it was defective. They really should make that clear, because that's what I thought at first until I figured that out.Give it a try, it's a nice umbrella. It's plenty big when in use, but not as compact or light as I had expected. Even so, I am happy with my purchase.

Sturdy and reliable

Definitely not windproof. Flipped inside out in the first year and never quite worked the same again. In non-windy environments it functions well, of course. Very compact, fits in my backpack easily, comes out quick with the handle on the button.
