Great little vibration sensors

I was a bit skeptical but had seen so many good reviews I thought I would give them a try. These use standard batteries, were easy to hook up, and do exactly what they say. I appreciate the sensitivity controls, and on high they pick up feedback very well. Integrations with other platforms (like home assistant) were pretty simple to set up. Highly recommend!

They work great and have multiple use cases

These sensors are well-made, easy to connect, and have multiple applications. I have several installed around my house, and every day I find a new use case - (1) attach it under the sink and have lights turn on when doing dishes, (2) attach it to the cabinet doors and have lights turn on when cabinet doors are opened, (3) Get notified when washing machine, dryer, dishwasher cycle ends, (4) Get notified when mail box opened/closed, (5) I have a delivery box in my porch, so have one sensor there to get notified when I get a delivery, (6) Turn on the lights when fridge door is opened, (7) Turn on light and turn on my music/podcase when I start the treadmill ... Just unlimited use cases and very affordable.

Convenient

As a new parent, any gadget that promises to make those bleary-eyed, middle-of-the-night baby rocking sessions a little easier is an instant win in my book. I picked up the THIRDREALITY Zigbee Vibration Sensor specifically for this purpose: to turn on a soft light in the nursery when I'm rocking my little one, without fumbling for switches or barking voice commands that might wake my partner. When it works, it's pretty magical. I have it connected to a lamp, and the idea is that the motion of the rocking chair would trigger it. For the most part, it nails the "localized room lighting" bit. It's fantastic for keeping the room dim enough for me to see what I'm doing without blasting the main overhead light and disturbing anyone else. No more accidentally stubbing toes on rogue toys in the dark! However, it's not without its quirks. My biggest gripe is that while it does trigger when I initially sit down (which is great for turning the light on), it doesn't always register the continuous rocking motion to keep the light on. This means I sometimes have to give the arm of the rocking chair a good smack to re-trigger the sensor and keep the light from turning off mid-rock. It’s a minor inconvenience but when I pair it with other motion sensors I can get it to work most of the time.I've also experienced one disconnection since I started using it, which required a quick reset. Thankfully, it reconnected without a fuss, but it's something to keep in mind.Pros:* Localized Lighting: Perfect for subtle, non-disruptive illumination.* Easy Setup (mostly): Integrates well with my Zigbee hub (Echo in my case).* Adjustable Sensitivity: Gives you some control over how easily it triggers.* Compact Design: Small and discreet, it blends in easily.Cons:* Inconsistent Rocking Detection: Doesn't always register continuous vibration, requiring re-triggering.* Occasional Disconnections: Had one instance where it dropped off the network.* Sensitivity Sweet Spot: Finding the right sensitivity for continuous, gentle rocking can be tricky.Overall, it's a handy little device that's almost perfect for my specific use case. It definitely solves a problem, even if it introduces a minor one of its own.

Works with IKEA DIRIGERA

I paired this THIRDREALITY vibration sensor with an IKEA DIRIGERA hub. It is seen by the hub as a motion sensor, and is exposed to Apple HomeKit and Alexa through the hub as a motion sensor; it was worked reliably for me with both platforms. The sensor itself has sensitivity and audible alert dip switches, so that it does not rely on software control for these functions. It takes two AAA batteries.

Hit or miss

I bought two of these 3 or 4 months ago. One has been rock solid! The other I thought died because of battery, but after replacing the batteries, I've found out that it just plain died. I don't know why. I've taken the board out to inspect it, but I don't see any signs of any damage on the inside. All the traces seem normal. Idk. You might be hit or miss with these! 🤷‍♂️

Works great to Home Assistant Automations

I'm using this vibration sensor to detect when my dryer cycle is complete, a method widely demonstrated in various Home Assistant tutorials on YouTube. I appreciate the use of AAA batteries, as they offer longer life and allow me to use rechargeable ones. A helpful tip: make sure to turn off the siren before inserting the batteries by moving its dip switch from the '0' to the '1' position.

Another easy sensor for Home Assistant

Third Reality has become my go-to for Home Assistant. LIke most Third Reality products I've used, this sensor had no pairing issues and works right out of the box with ZHA. The response to vibration is quick and is appropriately sensitive for my use-case (determining if a panel to the attic has been moved).

Works out of the box with Home Assistant, but maybe not Alexa?

Turned the device on, heard the loud beeps from the "siren," immediately turned that off, then when into my Home Assistant installation and added this little baby to use for alerting me when my dryer turns off. However, there's a catch. The device, while I CAN connect it through the Aleca voice assistant integration, shows as unsupported for Alexa (as of May 18, 2025). Not a deal breaker, it just means I need to learn a little more on how to actually use Home Assistant (which was on my long-term to do list, anyway).I will be clear that this is not a deal breaker for me, as I love Third Reality's devices that I've tried so far, especially since they just work out of the box with ZHA, and I will continue to buy their products as the need arises.
