Quality maul with ability to use as a hammer on metal wedges
I have several Fiskars axes which I'd rate 10/10. This X39 I'd rate 9/10 because it doesn't come with the carry case the others do, and the handle doesn't get wider at the end to stop your hand slipping off. That said my hand hasn't slipped off as it has a grippy rubberised handle - it also has a rubber collar to prevent damage to the handle of you miss your spot. It's 1.2kg heavier than my XXL X27 splitting maul but about 6cm shorter, though still long enough at about 90cm (I'm 6ft1 - 1.85m). I bought this because of the plastic back to the axe head that can be used as a hammer without fear of it shattering or chipping when hammering metal wedges. I have a load of large logs that the axes get stuck in and I feel comfortable in hammering this through with a lump / sledge hammer which saves on the hassle of getting it out and then using a wedge. The moral however is to split your logs as soon after they have been cut as possible when it is much easier and this axe will easily split large rounds up to 30-40cm if they are not too knotty but overall the X27 is better as it is lighter and less tiring to use so if you don't need the hammer is probably the better buy.

Excellent splitting axe
Wish I'd bought this years ago. Was struggling to split seasoned oak logs. This cuts through anything like a knife through butter. It's not as heavy as you think and the weight helps reduce the amount of effort you need to put in; let it fall under gravity and it'll go clean through most things first time. Excellent purchase.

This is a good one
Great idea to separate the materials half though this way the stock from hitting a stump too hard is mitigated.

best maul i’ve ever used.
split 17 tonnes of beach, ash, chestnut and birch without having to sharpen. no visible wear or fatigue on handle or head. destroyed two others in same period, same weight- one hickory handle and another a composite handle.

Absolutely brilliant products it's the best axe that I have ever used. It makes large logs split like a hot knife through butter.
