Excellent quality...better than my German kraut crock!
I bought a .5G and 1.3G crock from Humble House to test out. I've been fermenting off and on since 2007. Back then I started with a large, expensive Harsch Gartopf German crock with ceramic weights and a water trough. The German crock was just too big. I only ferment foods for me; doing small batches of kraut, kimchi and sometimes lacto-fermented pickles. These Humble House crocks are a perfect size for 1 person jobs or for small batch experimentation. These crocks are affordable, which allows me to own a number of them to ferment different foods simultaneously. The glaze and finish of the Humble House crocks is excellent! The German crock had a very rough finish and the weights were unglazed. I've sold the German crock and plan to buy a couple more of the smaller Humble House crocks. Very happy with them. My only complaint is the entrance hole on these mini crocks is a little too small and it is tough to get my whole hand in. An inch bigger would have made a big difference. Also, the wood stamper is kinda small diameter, but I have my own stompers, so just saying. The company does a good job keeping the cost down on the crocks and I would not like paying a higher price just to get an unneeded larger stomper with the package. Just look at the included wood stomper as a bonus item and not a top end stomper. Thanks, Humble House for making a well-designed, affordable and quality product! Daniel D. Best crock on the market!
This is the best and only crock you need to buy! Super easy to load, manage and clean. I've been using mine nonstop since I bought it and it is flawless. Make sure you keep the box and packaging it's the best way to keep your crock safe and sound.

Nice crock, unimpressive weights
My crock arrived just in time to pull together my kraut. I unboxed it and am really happy with the size and design. The ceramic weights left a little to be desired. The glaze doesn't cover the inside half. The corner of one has a sizeable crack which makes a great spot for undesirable microbes to grow. And the unglazed portions of the weight had unfinished ceramic stuck to it. I have a spare weight hanging around that I can use so I'm happily not up a creek. However, if you're getting this in on a deadline then I'd suggest giving yourself some wiggle room for replacement time if you're banking on using the supplied weights. **Update** I'm bumping this up another star. Humble House reached out after my original review. In shopping around for weights, I had found artisan weights that were completely glazed and made the false assumption that these would also be fully glazed. The inside half is meant to be unfinished so they stand to dry better. That's fine and dandy, sets my mind at ease a bit. They sent out a replacement weight for the one that was cracked. The replacement came with unfinished plaster on it like the original two had. Not a major deal breaker by any means as it's easily sanded off -- but I still think that's something that could be checked and done when finishing the product before shipping. I did find that the weights weren't quite hefty enough for my first batch of kraut in the crock. The ferment kept pushing up above the brine. I added some more weight and it was fine. I'm on a second batch now of beetkraut and it's staying nicely under the brine. I have a lot more brine going this time thanks to the beets and the humidity/temp hasn't spiked -- so it may have just been unexpected gas build up that overcame the weights in the first batch. I am very happy with this crock. Where others have complained about water leaking, I haven't had any such issue. When I tested it initially to make sure I was filling the trough properly, I found I was over filling it and also that I shouldn't fill the trough then put the lid on. Once I started putting the lid on first then filled the trough only until it covered the "vent" on the lid, everything was fine and water stayed put. I'll probably be ordering a second crock at some point!

Easy to use. Works great.
I like to garden and cook. But I've always been intimidated by the idea of fermenting foods. So when I decided to try it, I decided to research and purchase equipment specifically designed for the job. After reading many reviews and googling recipes, I chose this product. It arrived very securely packaged with all the advertised contents. I cleaned everything thoroughly and boiled the stone weights for good measure. I went about shredding, salting, pounding and squeezing the cabbage until there was enough moisture to cover the cabbage once inside the krock. On my first try I used red cabbage and added garlic. Probably too much garlic because I love garlic. I fermented for two weeks, the minimum of most recipes I perused. It was ok, but there was an aftertaste I didn't care for. So I tried it again without getting cute and left out the garlic and used plain ol' green cabbage. The product was great sauerkraut like Grandma used to make. My third batch is fermenting now with just a tad of garlic to experiment. I eat kraut two or three times a week and this 2 liter unit appears to make enough or me alone before I run out. I find the prep work to be laborious, but not so much to deter me from making this great probiotic side dish. So much cheaper than buying the unpasteurized varieties in specialty stores. This is a great product, and easy to use and maintain. It hasn't been empty since I opened the box and first put it to use.

Customer Service was great!
I recently ordered this fermentation crock, and I am very pleased with the quality and size. It's a thick, sturdy piece of stoneware with a beautiful glaze. It looks great sitting out on the counter. I reached out to customer service about a small issue, and they responded quickly. That kind of service makes all the difference. Can't wait to make my first fermentation recipe. I highly recommend this crock. Happy Fermenting !!!!!

Complete beginner's experience
About a year ago I decided I wanted to start adding some fermented foods to my diet for health reasons. I personally don't like sauerkraut from the store but read that it gets more "sour" the longer you ferment it so I bought this crock and fermented only about a week. I found the 1/2 gallon will hold about two modest sized heads of cabbage (produces two full 32oz mason jars). The first time I used the wooden pusher to mash but I got a LOT more liquid released by putting on a couple vinyl gloves and squishing in my hands. This reduced the amount of salt water I had to mix and add to make sure it was all covered while fermenting by over 90%. The flavor is rapidly growing on me and each subsequent batch has been aged longer. The crock looks great and is a bit of a conversation piece if you have someone visiting (the same applies if you make sprouts at home too). I can tell the crock or weights could be broken quite easily by accident so I use a lot of care. I am not sure if they sell each piece individually priced where it would be reasonable to not just buy a whole new set but I hope so. Being able to add some purple cabbage or carrot to the kraut is really nice. I can get just what I want and with a little experimentation I am able to add more fermented vegetables to my diet which is just what I wanted to do.

Great crock and excellent customer service
I bought the 10 L crock over 4 years ago, and I've used it ferment quite a few batches. It works great and is easy to clean. The fact that it comes with weights also makes it a good buy, especially now that the weights are glazed (I have the unglazed weights so they need a little more cleaning than the glazed, but it's not hard). I let a batch go for way too long recently, and the bottom of the crock wept onto the shelf. Upon in inspection after cleaning it, there were some little dark blemishes where I think the seeping occurred, so the crock was not longer usable. I contacted Humble House on the weekend, and to my surprise, Cody got back to me right away. I explained the issue, the fact that I let my last fermentation go for longer than normal, and sent some pictures. We corresponded via email back and forth a few times, and Cody let me know he was sending a replacement crock out to me. Excellent customer service! If I ever need an additional crock, or hear of someone that is planning to buy one, I'll definitely recommend the crock from Humble House. While I'm ok with needing to clean the unglazed weights, I may eventually purchased the glazed ones that Humble House now sells. Excellent product + excellent customer service = thumbs up from me.

Unsatisfactory
Crock was improperly made in the pottery. Central hub in pottery base projected 3mm beyond outside edge making the crock unstable. Very disappointing considering the price. I was offered a refund but considering it came from USA ( and it was a gift) the time and inconvenience of returning it( I live in rural Australia) was frustratingly too long. I have had to make a rubber base ring to resolve the issue. Its what I have come to expect with crap made in China! I thought it was produced in the USA. Obviously Humble House quality control matches China Standards. From your documentation” if there’s a problem we’ll make it right” Would have been much better if it was made right in the first place

Highly recommended! Great product!
If anyone is looking for a reliable and good quality fermentation pot, we would highly recommend this over other similar products on Amazon. It is really well made, and not only in good quality but also in great design. We decided to leave it outside our Kitchen where it's visible as it adds nice touch to overall interior. We had some questions and great customer service provided directly by the owner who was kind and patient. We highly recommend this product to our friends and family.
