Hardened steel non anealed
Had to aneal them before use and they were bent when I received them. If you can’t get your metal str8 on your own you might want to avoid these BUT they are good quality

Questionable alloy
Purchased for san mai blade forging. Achieved a very good forge weld with an inner core of 1095 sandwiched between two pieces of this 15N20. Profiled, beveled, and able to see the distinction between the core and jacket. Hand sanded to 1500 grit. HRC hardness ~ 58-60 on heat treat.PROBLEM - When etched the blade has no distinction between the 1095 and 15N20 - it all etches dark evenly. Note it does not matter the etchant type - I tried with ferric chloride, vinegar, coffee... all the same result. Makes me wonder what the alloy content really is in this so called 15N20. It should be resistant to the etch (much more so than the 1095 at least)!Very disappointing. I may have received a bad batch - but it is from China. Be warned.**Addendum - I see on closer review of the item description the seller advises this 15N20 can not be used for etching Damascus (meaning it can not be used as a contrast steel with something like 1095). That is on me - however I still question the alloy content. As a nickel steel, 15N20 should not etch.

It’s steel
Steel arrived rust free and oiled. I think two had slight warps but these were annealed enough to straighten with no problems but that’s super common with steel bars. I’d call these “sub critical annealed” and not fully annealed but ground fine. I’ve both stock removed and forged with these and so far so good. Going to do some pattern welding soon with them.

6 of the pieces came bent and only two were straight.
I’m getting into knife making and I bought these based on the reviews, but I didn’t think I would be one of the unlucky one’s that would receive bent ones. Hopefully I can fix them.
