Lovely story
I purchased this book for my 18 month old daughter back in June. It is one of her favourite books that she will pick to read. We both get a lot of enjoyment from reading the book. When I say to her to pick a book to read, she will always run over and bring back this one. She absolutely loves the story and will sit on my lap captivated by the whole thing. It is such a lovely story too - highly recommend. It is one of our favourite books.

Touching
I personally like this book very much both the beautiful picture illustrations and the story line itself. Paper dolls symbolize the beautiful childhood of a little girl. My heart was so touched on the epidsode that how a mother played around with her little daughter and teaching her making paper dolls. Then by the imagination of the little girl, she had a lot of fun with the paper dolls until she she met her little boyfriend. This naughty boyfriend cut the paper dolls into trashes then flied up to sky and disappeared. It is sad to the point but the author keeps the message positive. Author does not portrait any nagative feeling with the little girl that the paper dolls gone. This seems me that everyone should get over and move on escalating to another stage of life, which is also very true to reality. Still, my 4 year old daughter is not ready to get over, she refuses to read the page that how the little boy tore and cut the paper dolls. She cries whenever she reads. That's why I think this book successful. It is so touching !!!

Fantastic story
I absolutely adore this story. I first read this with my daughter not long after my dad had suddenly passed away. We renewed it numerous times from the library and it gave us such a great comfort at the time. This story tells the story of a little girl, things and people that her are precious to her. It has the classic rhythm of a Julia Donaldson story. It is comforting, reassuring and beautiful 😍 There are so many activities that you can do to explore the story theme and content. This book is a real gift 💝

There is no doubt there is a sensitive touch to this clever story with a repeat rhyme element...
…but the paper dolls are stronger than you might think and new life begins in more ways than one, so to speak! The paperback edition currently benefits from images + 'READ SAMPLE' ooOoo n.b. There are various editions currently on this one stock code...this writing refers to the Macmillan hardback with matching dust-jacket, from 2012 (No CD is included) From the back cover: ~ ‘The breathtakingly beautiful story of one little girl and her five paper dolls’ From the dust-jacket sleeve: ‘They were Ticky and Tacky and Jackie the Backie and Jim with two noses and Jo with the bow... A string of paper dolls go on a fantastical adventure through the house and out into the garden. They soon escape the clutches of the toy dinosaur and the oven-glove crocodile, but then a very real pair of scissors threatens...✂️ A lyrical story of childhood, memory and the power of imagination from the unparalleled JULIA DONALDSON, with stunning illustrations by the hugely talented REBECCA COBB.’ ooOoo Measuring around 22.25 cm x 27.5 cm, the durable hardboard cover opens to 34 good quality, matte-finish pages over double page spreads; the rhyme running over 28. The illustrations, which offer scope for further discussion, are sympathetic to the words, which are a good size in black throughout.

Great story but damaged.
Loved the story however the pages at the top of the book are ripped and appear to have a dark line across. Some of the pages are still connected / stuck together. I think it is a manufacturing error. Would you like me to send some photos?

Loved it
So very sweet. I teared up the first time I read it to my 3 year old and he enjoyed it too. Also inspired us to make paper dolls which he liked (and then wanted to snip like the boy in the story... I guess the message was somewhat lost on him but we can grow into the nuances of the story later... Or he can have his own favourite things about it... Ha!). We will be keeping this on our list of favourites to share with friends. I also appreciated that it was different from most of Julia donaldson's books. This is more prose with a repeating rhyme every few pages. I enjoy her other books but it just made for a nice change.

The best Julia Donaldsons book!
Probably the best Julia Donaldson book! We loved this (2 girls 4 and 6). Followed up with making paper dolls the next day. Kids had a great time and the story is just beautiful

A must have for kids...and parents
I bought this book for 4yr old daughter, she loved it and so did I. It's a simple story, it repeats itself, so perfect for young ears, but it has a deeper message for adults and that pulled at my heart strings. It's unassuming, but one of those books that will make appearances at the right times.

Dolce storia dai +3
L'inglese è semplice e facilmente comprensibile/traducibile. Lo consiglio!
