New, new edit- My new favourite.....September 2017
September 2017An even newer edit- Love this machine..... used regularly for grinding raw for six cats. No problems at all.....people mention the noise! It's a machine that is grinding for a few minutes I can see no issue with the level of noise it makes. We use the coarse plate to grind a liver and kidney blend of meat with some heart and mix it with chunked meat. If use bones we only use rabbit and chicken through on a coarse plate then the fine plate. Don't push the bones in, let the machine pull them in joints facing away. New edit August 2016- still love this machine. I had to purchase a new one this month as in avoiding to trip over a pet I well and truly dropped the old one. The new one has a few slight changes over the old one, the discs now have two locator points to hold them in place and it seems quieter. I've already run two batches of cat food through for six cats and I am very happy with this fantastic grinder. Cleaning was no issue either, a quick soak, and vegetable oil the discs and cutting blade. Edit- November 2014- Still five stars, only use it for pet food and it has worked hard now for a year and a half. Felt I had to add an edit as some reviews seem daft. Yes the manufacturer will say not suitable for grinding soft bones no machine at this price would guarantee this. You buy it at this price acknowledging the risk. I've had NO problems at all with room temperature chicken and rabbit bones, large bones hammered before hand. Grinding discs all can be treated with olive oil immediately after washing then you have no oxidisation. Also follow the manufacturers washing instructions and DON'T put in the dishwasher. Lastly the noise from the machine is fine, not quiet but not excessive- it's a GRINDER!!! What do you expect at this price!!!! Original review This item was bought to produce quality homemade RAW food for my three cats. I looked for a long time at all the reviews for a variety of grinders and with such positive feedback regarding RAW/BARF food production went with this. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it, the grinder is easy to use and clean, I have no complaints about the noise. Everything went through the grinder without hesitation and I have to say it is now a favourite machine in my kitchen. If you are making pet food I would recommend having the chicken wings good and soft, at room temperature, before grinding as they go through the machine easily. However with liver I would have it partially defrosted, so it has some integrity as it goes through the mincer and is not a gooey sloppy mess. Do not hesitate to purchase this grinder....I used for normal domestic use and it has worked perfectly.

For any raw pet food makers out there...This is FAB!
I bought this after much research as I needed a grinder that could deal with raw chicken bones for making raw cat food. I didn't feel able to spend hundreds of pounds on a heavy duty, professional quality model so I wasn't expecting huge performance from this. HOWEVER, I used it for the first time this afternoon and it was amazing. It pulverised the bones from 4 kilos of chicken legs in about 3 minutes, without missing a beat. It was so impressive my entire family ended up standing watching it in awe! The machine itself seems quite solid and reassuringly plain. If anyone has a Magimix processor or a Jack LaLane juicer, it has a similar look and feel. There's a little compartment in the back to store the cord & plug and storage on top for the discs and the kibbe maker. It's easy to take apart and re-assemble and cleaning was a breeze. I oiled the disc and blade before I put them away as I suspect they would be prone to rusting, the hopper and other metal work are all either aluminium or stainless steel so they can just be dried off before storing. I can't remember if the metal parts are dishwasher safe but I wouldn't risk it as from experience, aluminium tends to pit & dull in the dishwasher. I really thought I'd only ever use this to make the cat food but now that I've found it to be such an enjoyable machine to operate, I will definitely be making my own mince with it. I've also bought sausage casings to try my hand at making my these too. I rarely buy sausages as I'm often horrified by the low meat content in them but if I can make my own now my children will be delighted. If you want to be able to grind chicken bones for pet food I'd highly recommend this, but as just a regular mincer, I can't imagine you getting anything remotely as good for the same price.

Excellent machine.
I have been using this grinder for some weeks now, and i am quite impressed with it. When i first saw the grinder, it did look like a cheap plastic product, but despite its cheap looks, it performs very well, which is the most important for me. It does make a lot of noise, but i think that is to be expected from a big engine like this. Like a few others have mentioned in their reviews, i also use mine to prepare cat/dog food, so far it has easily been able to handle whole chicken including bone, just chopped up in smaller pieces. I have not yet tried making sausage with it, but i suspect it will work just fine. All in all i think this is a very solid product, and good value for the low price. Compared to other grinders on the market you will be hard pressed to find one as powerful as this in the same pricerange. Pros: +Powerful. +Quickly grinds through meat, even with bones. +Pretty easy to clean and store. +Low price. Cons: -Not pretty looking. -Noisy.

Excellent machine. No faults at all.
There are some mixed reviews so I will try to be as clear as possible. We bought this to mince chicken wings having bought two kittens that apparently have to be fed 'raw'. This, to the uninitiated, is plain minced chicken, skin bones and meat. I bought a hand mincer but my 15 stone, five days a week in the gym body simply didn't have the strength to push the handle once the chicken skin backed up inside. So I researched and this seemed a good option - mixed reviews aside. My wife has been using it for a month and its simply perfect. I know (as stated) how strong that motor has to be to continually mince chicken wings, skin bone et al, and it does it without question. Its a solid piece of kit that just does exactly what it says. Its solidly made and easy to clean. Other suggested issues were oil or grease seeping into the meat - I have seen no evidence of that. As for rusting or poor quality we clean it and dry it after use and have had no such incidents. So far I can't see a fault. Re the operating noise, yes, its not quiet, but for the small time its on compared to the spectacular job it does, its a trade off I'm more than happy to accept. UPDATE. FEB 2018. Still as above. Two years on and no faults at all.

Fantastic mincer
This is one terrific addition to the kitchen. It minces really well and although a little noisy, that powerful motor just goes through meat like a hot knife through butter. It's very easy to clean (hot soapy water. NOT dishwasher) and reassemble. The sausage maker is just brilliant and we made some really delicious rabbit and pork breakfast sausages. It seems a very robust piece of kit and I would highly recommend anyone thinking of buying a mincer to seriously consider this one. Try minced venision when making Chilli Con Carni or Spag-Bol. Yummy !! Just felt I needed to edit this after some more use. It's a eally good buy. Robust, well built and great for grinding down pork shoulder for sausages and sausage rolls. We made some wicked venison burgers and I can honestly say, they were the best burgers ever. Just minced venison, sea salt and black pepper. Grind it twice and let them rest overnight on the fridge. Well done Andrew James for making this great home mincer.

Cheap metal with a nasty coating!
This is really cheaply made rubbish, instead of using stainless steal they have used some thin metal with a blackish coating on it that no matter how much you wash in comes off in your food. I thought it was grease to begin with and threw away the mince i had made, washed it again and it just kept happening. In the end against the advice of the manual i put it in the dishwasher and the whole thing was covered in black muck which i assume is what kept coming off in the mince. It is now part dull metal and still stained with the black stuff here and there which i assume will still keep coming off. Left overnight the top plate started oxydising with white crystals forming all over part of it. The whole thing is unusable at this point. I have put everything back in the dishwasher to try to get the rest of the black stuff off it so i can at least make something with it before it rusts and goes in the bin. The actual mechanics of it worked well but thats the only up side. The manual has pictures to show you how to assemble that seem to have been taken with no lighting and are so small and dark its hard to see what your meant to do. Definitely wont buy anything Andrew James again.

Old school grinder with great performance !!
We (like many others) ordered this grinder as we have two cats that we feed on a raw diet. The machine copes with everything we throw into it (chicken chunks, rabbit, quail .. whatever, with bones .. all chopped into reasonable sized pieces) without missing a beat. We are so thrilled with it that we are looking for a sausage recipe to try it out for ourselves. We live in France and the locally available options were two to three times the price so, even allowing for delivery we are delighted with our Andrew James grinder. We really don't understand why so many people are even mentioning the noise, what do you expect? It grinds meat, bones & gristle ... this cannot be done in 'whisper mode' no matter whose name is on the product!! It behaves like an old school grinder, munches what you put in and puts out a beautiful fine, smooth mix. Overall, the grinder is a great piece of kit, it does what it says on the tin and we cannot wait to try it when making our own sausages, hhmmmm.

Very Good....... When it Works!!!!
This was a replacement item for a mincer that did not arrive from another company. The delivery from Andrew James was very quick. The first outing with this machine was great and it minced both meat and bones without breaking a sweat. I was VERY impressed. It did exactly what I needed it to do. Not so impressed the next day, however, when I switched it on again only to find it as dead as the proverbial dodo!! A bit of faffing about and I managed to get it going. I thought there may be a problem with the circuit breaker facility (it cuts out if the machine is used for more than 10 mins) even though I did not use the machine for this length of time AND it had been over 24hrs since previously being used. Unfortunately, it did this a further twice - switching on but nothing happening - with the last occasion being the one where it would not resurrect itself. I'd had the machine just one week. I phoned the Customer Services dept and they were quite brilliant!!! A returns label was e-mailed immediately, along with local drop-off collection points and I had a full refund within 48hrs!!! The mincer may have been a disappointment but the Customer Services team were a delight to deal with. So it is one star for the item but five stars for great customer service. I would buy from this company again.
