ASUS VS197DE 18.5" Monitor, 1366x768, TN, D-Sub

An incredibly satisfying product. Wouldn't mind buying it again and again. Packing quality is second to none (although wouldn't have expected any less from Asus). Contains U.S and UK power leads which was kind of inconvenient but doesn't really matter for the purpose of this review. VGA cable is supplied and found this as a handy addition as many monitors at this price point decide to omit this. The monitor itself is wrapped in cellophane and arrived without a scratch. Set it up with relative ease although the power cable is quite short if you plan to run it somewhere quite far away from the monitors original position. Mind you screen is much,much wider than the photo on the Amazon page shows which was a surprise bit did not cause me any inconvenience. Not true 1080p resolution but 1366*768 which doesn't look far off. Menu and options are interactive and ease to use once one gets the hang of it. Actual monitor performance is excellent and many differing modes are available etc. Night, Theater and Srgb.Glossy finish would have looked out of place anywhere other than this monitor, so am pleased with that. One perk of this monitor is the ability to wall mount which is a feature I'm not currently utilising. Auto adjust and Smart View are some the flagship features that Asus decide to cram in here.All in all, this monitor is your best bang for the buck. Quality performance is being delivered an affordable price. Give it 1010 hands down, any day!

Bought as an extended screen for my laptop. It’s really hard to get a smaller screen these days- everything wants to be 22” and aboveWell that was no good to me to sit 2 foot away on top of a desk while I created or compared a document while something else was on my laptop screen. This is a great size however- actual screen size is 16” x 9”. You’re going to need an HDMI adaptor (but there’s plenty of them around) and there’s no changing the height (so buy a seperate ‘shelf’), but it’s all about having something of a size that’s comfortable to use but not too big that it takes over the entire desk. This ticks that box and looks great while doing it.

Bought this as a second monitor the principle requirement being that it wasn't greater than 20". I was a bit surprised that there was no vertical adjustment but this was solved by putting it on a small box that has doubled up as stationery store. The screen serves my purpose well but just be aware that it uses TN technology which means that the screen image fades if you view it from too high or low a position (generally unlikely if you're sitting in front of the monitor). It came with a 13amp UK-type plug/lead. The supplied signal cable is the old VGA to VGA so if your PC doesn't have a VGA out port you'll need to get a suitable cable having the required connections.

Good Cheap Gaming Monitor - Very Fast Delivery From Amazon excellently Packaged for delivery. Great colour and depth to this screen , i do allot of pc gaming and for such a low priced monitor it has superb performance, also can be wall mounted which is a bonus. I would recommend any gamer with a low budget to get this monitor its a good bang for your buck.

The wider screen aspect allows for two optimum sized windows to be viewed at the same time. It has straight forward monitor controls that are simple to use and the screen quality is of a highly regarded quality.

No HDMI cable. Instead they bundled two kettle leads - a European and UK - one of which will probably end up in landfill, and a VGA cable like it's 1997. Not good ASUS. I should have probably put a bit more research into this purchase.The monitor itself is clear, sharp and very bright. Ran the WIN10 colour calibration utility and that toned it down a lot. Using it for a combination of office work and light gaming. For the price, its a big step up from my 10 year old Dell 1440x900. The plastic base is relatively stable on my desk and the OSD controls are typically awkward because nobody seems interested in designing a better way of adjusting monitors. It comes with various modes that might be useful if you could be bothered groping around the rather thick bezel. Usually I'm a big fan of ASUS gear but this left me feeling a little underwhelmed. It's just so ... ok, I suppose.

Rating is partly for delivery as no option provided for "found propped against front door in full view during changeable weather". Picked option as "driver unprofessional" as closest option. Then I see that it is logged as "handed to customer". Open box and no UK power cable, so not as described and can't use. Call me cynical but I wonder if they just send this out figuring people won't be bothered to return and just buy an adaptor? Anyway, if you're in UK don't expect this to work out of the box. Build is flimsy looking. Knew height not adjustable but the stand is very short so going to need something to lift it. Overall experience reeks of manufacturer and shipper not caring much about their customers.

It's early days yet but so far so good. I bought this to be able to use my SDR Radio in another room but I'm sure it's capable of much more. It was ridiculously cheap, picture is great and I get the feeling it will last forever. Registering online was easier than with a lot of electronics you buy these days.
