The New York Times bestselling author of Reality-Based Leadership rejects the current fad of "engaging" employees and the emotional drama of "meeting their needs"--returning leadership to leaders and productivity to businesses. For years now, leaders in almost every industry have accepted two completely false assumptions--that change is hard, and that engagement drives results. Those beliefs have inspired expensive attempts to shield employees from change, involve them in high-level decision-making, and keep them happy with endless โsatisfaction surveysโ and workplace perks. But what these engagement programs actually do, Cy Wakeman says, is inflate expectations and sow unhappiness, leaving employees unprepared to adapt to even minor changes necessary to the organizationโs survival. Rather than driving performance and creating efficiencies, these programs fuel entitlement and drama, costing millions in time and profit. It is high time to reinvent leadership thinking. Stop worrying about your employeesโ happiness, and start worrying about their accountability. Cy Wakeman teaches you how to hire โemotionally inexpensiveโ people, solicit only the opinions you need, and promote self-awareness in your whole team. No Ego disposes with unproven HR maxims, and instead offers a complete plan to turn your office from a den of discontent to a happy, productive place. Review: Freaking Brilliant and So Clear and Intutive- You'll Wonder Why You Didn't Think of This Yourself - Freaking Brilliant as always! I heard Cy speak at SHRM 2017 and very quickly bought her books and I am applying the (very easy to understand) principles at work. I finished the book this week and it was a series of wonderful revelations. And a lot of the revelations came with validation. I have been skeptical of employee engagement surveys for a long time, stating that they โheld us hostageโ and that โcomplainers are going to complain no matter what we doโ And โwhy are we asking everyone what they think, why donโt we just survey the people who are the best performersโ and โnot all turnover is bad turnoverโ. For this I was told I was a โbadโ HR person. Hearing my thoughts, (expressed so well) was wonderful in making me feel that I am not alone. I have been also using some of the phrases and lessons from the book. When someone starts going on an ego trip, I put the brakes on the bus, and ask, โlets recap the things we know are trueโ. โWhat you are saying is that based on the behaviors exhibited, Jane is not accepting her new realityโ. Asking for peopleโs buy in. I talk about this in meetings and everyone is all, โWow thatโs brilliantโ or โYou handled the situation so wellโ or โThanks for getting the meeting back on track so quicklyโ So I have to say, the SHRM meeting hooked me initially, but now that I am two books in โReality Based Leadershipโ and โNo Egoโ Iโm a #TrueRBLeiver Review: Love! - Cy is incredible. Although Iโm not in the medical industry, her lessons are always relatable and so helpful especially when leading a team!

Freaking Brilliant and So Clear and Intutive- You'll Wonder Why You Didn't Think of This Yourself

Mind blowing and brilliant!
After I listened to a third of the book on Audible, I then purchased the hard copy and several of Wakeman's other books. I've already read it several times and shared it with colleagues. I wish I would have read this YEARS ago!

Quick practical advice
This was a quick read and I would highly recommend it to anyone whose organization is facing rapid change. I am in I.T. and Cy offers no-nonsense scripts and practical advice for getting team members โon the busโ and advocating for change, or transitioning โoff the busโ and onto another team. Change is here, it is not optional, and if the change has really come as a major shock than you are likely not keeping up with the Industry like you should. Great insights on things like the open door policy, dealing with whiners, and putting an end to the drama. Iโd also recommend Cyโs podcast โNo Egoโ which prompted me to get the book.

Simply Amazing!
Cy Wakeman's philosophy is life changing! I came across Cy a few years ago at an HR conference and have been hooked every since. Her philosophy is very "real" and practical to apply. It is just common sense - you can't argue with it - but it produces amazing results! Common sense isn't common so it is amazing how many team members could benefit from this if they just dropped their ego and were open to listening and learning. Diffusing drama, increasing accountability and focusing to business readiness will truly help you be more successful both professionally and personally. You need to read all of her books, especially her most recent one No Ego - there are very applicable tools in there to assist - Go Cy!

Some good advice and tips for anyone who leads a team.
Recommended by our district manager for us pharmacy managers. As a manager for about 20 years I found 1/3 to be review, disagreed with about 1/3, and found about 1/3 to be insightful.
