TORCHSTAR 4 inch Dimmable Recessed LED Downlight, 10W (85W Equivalent), Energy Star, 2700K Soft White, 850lm, Retrofit LED Recessed Lighting Fixture, 5 Years Warranty

This luminaire seems well made. The light output is even and the lens seems to diffuse the light well. Whether the light is truly 2700 warm light is uncertain to me - I was able to visually compare this light to a Philips CREE 2700 bulb, and the Torchstar is "whiter", but its not a dramatic difference - maybe the CREE bulb is off, not the Torchstar. Overall, I was satisfied with the light. The led connector fits perfectly with the HALO 4" recessed can, so installation was a 10 second event.But I am not satisfied with the final appearance - which is a big issue to me. The Torchstar trim ring that encircles the light is flat - it does not curve upward toward the ceiling, like most trim rings for recessed lighting. I have no idea why this is the case. What does this mean? If you are using "remodel" recessed lighting fixtures in particular, or any other recessed can that has a lip that rests on the ceiling drywall, you want a trim ring that extends beyond the lip and turns upward to rest directly on the ceiling. In other words, you want a light that hides the lip of the light fixture.This light does not have a curved ring, but instead the trim ring is entirely flat. So what you see when you look up to the light is a light fixture sandwich - drywall, then a gap where the aluminum light fixture lip rests on the drywall, and then a plastic trim ring. There is a small but very visible gap between the trim ring and the drywall ceiling. By example, the Philips lights I have don't have this - the trim ring extends beyond the recessed fixture's lip, and curves up, resting directly on the ceiling. A much more finished look.Now, if you have very tall ceilings, you probably can't see this gap with the Torchstar. Or if you have lighting cans that are "new construction" cans, they may be completely flush with the drywall ceiling, and not have any type of lip you need to cover. If either of this is the case, these light should be a five star product for you.But I've decided not to use mine for my remodel job which has lipped cans - I need to find one that have curved trim rings.

UPDATE: I finally found some time to replace these with FEIT Electric LED retrofit trims. I reinstalled the Maestro LED dimmers that I had originally purchased for these lights. The lights turn completely off now - no dim light with he switch off. This tells me that the Torchstar units are defective, at least the ones I got. They would not allow me to return them. I wish I could rate these a zero star. The FEITS are very affordable and have a much lower profile so they fit in the cans better, too. You can get them at Costco. Save yourself the headache and get the FEITS instead.ORIGINAL REVIREW:These do not work with most dimmers even if the dimmer states that it is compatible with LEDs. When the light switch is off the cans still dim slightly. I have tried three different models of dimmers, from the $30 Maestros to the cheaper Lutrons with the sliders. I also tried them with a regular light switch. I am an electrician and have also consulted several friends who are electricians. No one has experienced this phenomena with any LED trims they have installed. I contacted Torchstar and they sent me a list of compatible dimmers, all of which are the cheaper variety, including some outdated rotary dimmers. I bought one of their suggested models and still had the same problem.They will not allow me to return them because it has passed the return by date. I did not install these right when I got them, then went abroad for a month, and when I returned I had the time to finally troubleshoot them and try all the different dimmers mentioned above. I guess I call it a loss. I am going to install the ones that Costco sells which my fellow electrician friend has installed on dimmers in many homes with no problems.

Cons: lens seems to be a super cheap, shiny plastic (whereas Utilitech is a frosted glass). Sits differently which leaves gaps. NO FOAM RING FOR SEALING UNIT! Utilitech came with a nice foam ring that sat on the trim section to squishy it up to the ceiling.Pros: MUCH brighter than what you can get off the shelves at box stores, which is why I swapped them out. The units all come on at the same time and fade out at the same time. No wonky crap. Hurray!Will update with a photo of the lens difference when I can. Amazon mobile for Android is not particularly user friendly.

Replaced over 20 recessed lights with this retro-fit kit. It was very easy to do. The color on the bulb is a pleasing warm glow. The only downside is that the dimmer switch that I had didn't completely dim the fixture. So I had to replace the switch. Once the switch was replaced, it was all good! At full brightness the lights are amazingly bright.My electric usage is definitely showing some reduction after replacing my fixtures.

These things are perfect. Just the right amount of light. I enjoy how they are more yellow and not that weird bright white color that some LED's are. Make sure your ceiling does not have a lot of texture where you are putting these. If it does then they will not sit flush against the wall. Also make sure your drywall gets very close to the light can. These do not have much overhang and it wont hide your crappy drywall job that you did at one in the morning because it was taking you longer than expected......

Easy to install. My only issue is that it doesn't really dim all that much, but from what I'm reading here, I probably need an LED dimmer instead of depending on the current (probably cheap incandescent) dimmer. Will update after I get one of those puppies.

To the first reviewer, you probably don't have an led dimmer... Spend the extra money instead of using the $6 dimmer and you'll be fine.To the reviewer with the gap issue, I completely understand your gripe, however, these should last a very long time. Nothing a little caulk can't fix.To the reviewer questioning the color of the lamp, REALLY?The light works, fits well and looks good. Trim is metal compared to the flimsy plastic of higher end brands and does the same job at a much more appealing price. I'm satisfied.
