Great revolver holster for "Lefties"
First let me say a big “Kudos” to whatever man, woman, or team who conceived of and designed this holster. Not only is it well built with quality components and great looks but it its practical from its ambidextrous design. I’m a “leftie” and for this application I carry cross-draw and for my choice of firearm its very difficult to find a holster that fits my needs/desires. Let’s talk about components and construction: very heavy high-grade skirting leather is used in both pieces - both the holster body and the ambidextrous “belt slot” wrapping. Of course that strong construction comes with a cost - this is not your typical light-weight holster. Further, the machine stitching is even and good looking and it appears they used linen thread, not abrasive and leather-cutting nylon. The brass snaps and Chicago screw for holding the safety straps are also quality in appearance and of good size to wear well. I really like their logo and the design work of it and I will be pleased to wear that "1791” proudly on my belt and just as pleased to tell inquiring minds its significance. I like single-actions for when I’m horse packing and I carry a short-barreled Taylor & Company Cattleman with birds-head grip and for me a Kydex or nylon holster just wouldn’t do when carrying that piece. The company claim that this holster fits from Ruger Single-Six models up through Colt SAA clones. Technically it does …but here I would provide some “personal thoughts”. My old Single-Six 3-screw model slips in and fits like a glove and I like that the cut of the design fully covers the trigger and guard - a great safety feature for brush-popping’ to keep from catching the trigger... though agreed this is not nearly so dangerous for SA as for double-actions. My copy of a Colt open-top cartridge revolver in .44 Spec. also slips in nicely and is a little tighter but still fits well. But the company specifically mentions the holster fits Taylor & Company Cattleman and here I have a bit of a problem with the specific holster I received and my specific gun. That second piece of “belt slot” leather that I was mentioning above is so tightly fit and sewn to the holster’s main body that it actually constrict the the holster a bit at mid-section. This is not a problem for my big SAA long-barreled clone (though it is a tight fit and has to be pushed down hard and is a two-handed operation to draw) but it just so happens that my Cattleman has a very high partridge front sight that catches on that constriction (and the stitching on the inside) and was excessively hard to holster and to draw when I first received the holster new. In fact I estimate it took about fifteen pounds of pull to free it the first few times. Now understand, the company sends an excellent broadsheet on how to “wear-in” your new holster to fit your individual firearm, but I had to go a bit farther and actually soak the holster in hot water and then let my .45 (plastic wrapped) sit in there a day and then wiggle it around and twist it a bit. It IS getting better and I think it will eventually pass muster but it is still a definite pull to release from the grip of that holster, and I have to cock the gun forward a bit on the draw at the half-way constriction to get it to pass the front sight past the stitching. BUT … it is worth it. I’m not interested in any “quick-draw” antics and I don’t want that fine piece of artillery falling out on some rough trail, and besides, dang it … it does look good in that holster! Another thing potential buyers should be aware of: I had to look long and hard to find the specs on the width of the belt slots and the size of the belt they designed it to accept. They state it will accept a 1-3/4” belt. Well … maybe. I have problems getting a heavy leather dress belt of 1-1/2” to slide on and it certainly is tight and the holster won’t move around much. A 1-3/4” belt would be better to carry the weight of that gun and holster while sitting in belt lops on your pants but I question whether you could get it to fit in the holster slots without great great effort. So …all-in-all I give the holster five stars and think it is well worth the price tag … for the right gun. It will probably take from a little to a lot of “wear-in” depending on your choice of pistol… just be prepared for a tight fit for SAA Colts and clones.

My New Leather Company!!! Thanks 1791
I only write long reviews on near to or perfect products. I feel this is one of them. This might be long winded. I'm 60 and have purchased many leather holsters and gun belts over the years. All had minor to large imperfections in the finished leather product. I get that. From the leather itself to the dyeing methods, drying time/methods and tooling marks from molding the holster either for a specific gun or more generic models. I purchased this for my new Ruger Wrangler/4.6" barrel. Well I opened the bag to my first PERFECT piece of a hand made leather product that I ever purchased. It was vegetable tanned to the softest of brown. I couldn't find a microscopic imperfection anywhere, even the stitching is perfect. It's so nice I don't want to use it. It should be in a museum somewhere. I thought, how could it be made through all those steps without even a single tooling mark or tiny water stain. That's because 1791 knows how to make holsters. Its designed for any 22LR - 45LC Single Action Revolver with the old style Western sights. Meaning the front is typically a low profile non adjustable pin/welded half moon blade and the rear is the channel engraved along the top of the rear cylinder frame. Me and my wife have a pair of 1992 Ruger New Model Super Single Six Convertibles in Stainless. Mine in 6.5" and hers in 5.5". Those have the large screw on high ramp front sights. Also the cylinder frame is thicker in the rear for the adjustable rear sights. The thicker top frame and ramped front sight is for a better sight picture. After my holster break in (describe below), my wife's 5.5" New Model Super Single Six would not holster. The holster is cut out for either top frame at the rear. The large front sight catches inside. When the sight tunnel was formed in the leather, its for the old style sight described above. I could change the front sight on my wife's to a small fiber optic or something, but those are tack drivers. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Now another thing. Ruger has come out with the Super Wrangler for 2023 with a few barrel lenght options. Super Wrangler frames are identical in dimensions to the New Model Super Single Six. Only it's frame is CNC machined aluminum and not steel. It has the same thicker rear top frame because it comes with the same sights on this new 2023 model as my 31 year old pair of New Model Super Single Six's. Meaning a 4.6" or 5.5" Super Wrangler will not fit without reworking the sight tunnel for the taller front sight. If the stock front sight is not changed or holster reworked the front sight will eat through the leather in no time. It has that cowboy look with a touch of moderness, meaning ambi and snap strap retention. My Wrangler was too tight for me at first (expect that). I did the zip lock bag trick for 24 hours. Better, but needed a tad more. Did the two bag trick for 72 hours and perfect for me. Didn't want it too tight or the gun finish rubs off faster over time. I always carry a 22 pistol when hunting. For 40 years hiking around with a shouldered slinged rifle, hearing the stock hit the grip of my handgun. This year it moves to the left side. Final note on the holster. This was way less in cost over the other top brands. Brands I've purchased from before and never received something as nice as this. If you own a Gen 1 Ruger Wrangler, this is the holster you want. Killing two birds here for reviews. I did purchase the 1791 Leather Gun Belt about 2-3 weeks after the holster. Yes, it arrived flawless like the holster. The color match was spot on. This belt is 5/16" thick. Its really stiff but will break in if worn daily in 6 months. Its also nice enough for just a general office type work belt. The nicest removable/changable Nickle buckle I've ever owned. Follow the sizing guide to the tee and you'll be fine. I played around with a piece of string and what I ordered can be worn as a belt itself or outside with a holster over the primary belt. If you want that ability then go up two of what they recommend. The edging on both products is really done nice. Both are stamped with the 1791 logo, the holster on both sides. The belt is unlined and the rough leather side on the inside, same as the holster. For the money spent, I really feel I got my moneys worth compared to other options/prices. Each product came with a free leather keychain stamped with their logo. Nice touch 1791. I would not hesitate to purchase any 1791 Gun Leather product. Hints for 1791 ( we'll see if they read their reviews ) Offer popular holsters with different thread options. Though I like the white thread used on the light brown model, I would have preferred black. The black holster needs white thread. The black on black offers no contrast to the holster. I would have gotten the b!ack holster if made with white thread. I would repurchase if that was ever offered.

Better than expected.
Very well built and when it's broken in (it's good thick leather) it holds my pistol exceptionally well.

Great quality
Bought this for my trapping pistol. A heritage 22. Perfect fit, very little break in and comfortable. The construction and quality of leather seems above and beyond to me. It'll last me the rest of my life I'm sure. Only draw back I see is the thumb strap screw that makes the strap adjustable is free spinning and make it pretty awkward to unscrew and also to reinstall the screw and tighten once it adjusted. Maybe a drop of lock-tite once you have it where you want it.

Perfect for Wrangler
I've been looking for a nice holster to "dress up" my budget SA revolver. So glad I found this holster. It fits the Ruger Wrangler (4.62 barrel) perfect. No break in required. This holster is made with high quality leather and stitching is first class. It cost a bit more than I normally spend for a budget firearm, but worth every cent. The only adjustment I needed to make was the retention strap. That arrived a bit to loose, I was able to fix in all of two minutes. Very easy. I absolutely recommend this holster. Especially for the Ruger Wrangler.
