White vinegar is a mild organic acid and by using the recommended amount in the directions, the acid will dissipate in the hide or skin making it not necessary to adjust the pH. Thank you for your interest in our product. **Q: salted hides ,have dry salted river otter hides, will they need a pickle bath before using the tanning oil?** A: Yes, we recommend rehydrating the skins first, then going into a pickle bath, then if necessary, shaving and degreasing before applying NuTan. Full instructions will be on the bottle. Thank you. **Q: How long between rehydration and picking?** A: Once the hide is rehydrated and drained, it can go directly into the pickle bath. Thank you. **Q: Can this be used on coyote hides** A: Yes, NuTan can be used to tan all hides and skins including Coyote. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent for home tanning *by on Reviewed in the United States August 3, 2026* Nutan is an excellent product ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ No compliants. *by on Reviewed in the United States October 8, 2026* Tanned a large elk hide.
