Make your life a little easier!
This Firewood Kindling Splitter by Kindling Cracker is an absolutely awesome product and a must have for anyone who owns a fireplace. I originally saw this product online and thought I would look up where to find it, so happy I was able to purchase one on here! One thing I hate about building fires everyday is that making kindling with an axe is just a plain difficult task that takes forever! Not with this kindling splitter! This is a cast iron product so it should last you forever, and all you need to use this is a good hammer or mallet and you can make a TON of kindling in just a few short minutes. It is easier to use on 2x4's and can be a bit of a hassle if they have any big knots, but still works amazingly.... It has two holes on the bottom so you can attach it to a large log or workbench to assure that it does not move. We are going to attach it to a thick board so that it can e moved because we do not want to leave in out in the rain for fear that it will get rusted. We even bought one of these for my grandparents because they use their fireplace daily and at 76 my grandpa has a rough time making enough kindling. This makes it super easy for him and we all absolutely love this tool! ~Thanx~

Way better than expected!
This is a review for the Kindling Cracker Firewood Kindling Splitter by Kindling Cracker. I bought this as a humorous Christmas gift for my son. Once he took off the fancy bow, naturally we had to go play with it straight away. A half hour later and we're back inside with armloads of kindling. The splitter works perfectly and is even better than advertised. I've had fireplaces and wood stoves for my entire life, and figure I've seen every kind of splitter and maul by now. I had expected the Kindling Cracker to be good, but how could it be much of an improvement on what's already out there? Well, surprise, surprise - it's good and better. I couldn't be happier with this thing and here's why: I haven't been able to split kindling for a few years because of a bum shoulder, but today I discovered that with the Kindling Cracker I'm able to split SINGLE HANDED (with my trusty 4# Stanley sledge) all the kindling I'm in the mood for. I can even do it sitting down. This turned out to be a huge surprise gift for me because I never expected that I'd be able to split wood again. My son loves it, too, and the only downside is now we have to take turns. Clean design, bullet-proof, super stable. The round top makes comfortable in the hand to carry. Edit: I just bought an Estwing MRF3LB 3-Pound Sure Strike Fiberglass Drilling Hammer and it works even better than the Stanley for me. If this review was helpful, please click "yes" below. Thanks and happy cracking!

Very safe, but needs soft wood and a strong person.
This smaller model is best for short pieces of wood, preferably softer woods. I am a small woman and although I was easily able to swing a 5 lb sledge, with oak it took so many swings that I actually fractured one of my fingers from multiple impact of the sledge. For a big man probably pretty easy. It does have a great safety feature of the upper ring, so in that respect it’s very clever. Just needs short pieces of softer woods and a strong person.

Works as advertised. Much safer than splitting with a hatchet.
If you use wood heat in the winter, you're always in need of kindling with as little fuss and personal hazard as possible. In this device the sharp splitting edge is protected by a sturdy frame and the only moving part is your 3-pound mechanic's hammer. Splits most wood better than what I was using before- a razor sharp hatchet and chopping block, and a steady aim. The number of firewood pieces that go flying is far less, and that's important because I split kindling inside next to my stove on one side of the room, with windows, lamps, etc all around. Accidents can happen when you're rushed and perhaps fatigued from a day's hard work, and using techniques that require a sharp edge and precise aim in order to avoid severe self-injury. This keeps you out of the way of the edges and safely channels the split wood downward to the floor. I would keep your chopping block as a base, perhaps using the mounting holes to screw it down. Very fine splitting can be done putting the small stick to be resplit close to one side and avoiding the large wedge in the middle-if you want that you should mount the splitter with one post as close to the edge of the stump as you can, so that you can feed the halves through the frame and out next to the edge of your stump. I would be a lot happier letting my 10 year old girl use this to split kindling rather than giving her the best hatchet made to do the job. After using this for a heating season, the kindling cracker shows no detectable wear. The only limitation comes from the size of the top ring- fits most, but not the largest chunks coming from the woodpile. So get the larger ring size and get a bit more capacity. As for my hatchet, I'm retiring it from the living room and taking it back to the woodshed.

A must-have for those using a wood stove
This is a must-have for anyone using a wood stove or splitting wood for kindling. The splitter couldn't be any simpler to use and goes a long way toward improving safety. This size is really perfect for splitting a normal-sized log quarter. I don't think you'd really need the XL version.

Expensive but, Pay more Get more!
I was a little nervous about buying this wood splitter due to the price since I wondered if other tools would be as good with less cost. However, I'm very pleased to report its an excellent product and works very well. I can appreciate the product for its well thought out design and quality of build. The product is made out of cast iron which makes it very strong and able to take quite hard impacts when splitting the wood. So far I've managed to split lots of kindling with little effort and it really does make doing the job so much easier and safer. I really like the design since its very simple but really makes things simple and easy to use since you have lots of control over the point in which the splitting force is applied. Also having the top loop does make it far safer compared with using a hand axe. I would recommend screwing it down to a stable heavy object however, since it will just make it more stable and easier to use.
