Hi Jeff, This tool is an installer not a remover. We do have the 10105 U-Joint Puller, and I have attached a short video demonstrating these two tools. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AUvpvOMsTg Also, this tool uses a 1 1/4" wrench. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Would this work to press out smal u-joints like in a steering shaft, or for a pto pump?

This tool is to install (not remove) automotive universal joints only. The smallest u-joint press that Tiger Tool makes is a 10105, which is for universal joints with a bearing cup OD of 1.0-1.25". Mose steering shaft and PTO pump universal joints are smaller than that, so unfortunately neither of these tools will work for your application unless the bearing cups are at least 1" in diameter.
