is this easy to install yourself and how long does it take approximately?

Yes, it was easy for me to install alone in about two hours, but I have 40 years automotive repair experience and 12 years on Jeeps. Follow directions for "taping" your tailgate in place (correctly positioned in height, and latched) BEFORE you remove the stock hinge bolts. This allows near perfect alignment of the Smittybilt hinge bracket, so you'll only have to insert and snug those outside edge bolts to lock it in enough to open and snug down the rest. Additionally, by loosening those six hinge bolts and using a wooden shim underneath, you can obtain a better closure alignment (centering the height of the latch), for years of trouble free tailgate closure. Hope this helps!!!

So does this come with the extender for the third brake light? And if so can I use my factory third brake light?

YES ....it does come with the extender..... I didn't use it because In my opinion with the 35" tire and the third brake light it would reduce the rear view....The tire carrier works great ....no complaints ....2012 JK Sport 2 DR....35" on a 4" lift......

Do they make a cb bracket for this unit?

aftermarket ones for the jk will fit this carrier
