This book is great, doesn't hold your hands and moves at a fairly fast pace. In my view, this is not a beginners book but as long as you have a good working knowledge of basic web principles and programming fundamentals from any language this book has great value for anyone wanting to learn PHP. The MYSQL section is also very informative just not as in depth as the PHP section, however it does enough to get you going with working on the web. The MYSQL section does not dive into deep database design principles, however that is not the scope of this book. I'm glad it kept it simple as the main goals are to get an interactive website up and running. I have thoroughly enjoyed the book and still am learning Review: Read this and PHP will do all your bidding - This is the book that made my web development dreams a reality. It's amazing how the authors ably captured the fundamentals of PHP in a book of this size. The web security section forced me to view web application security differently. The workings of PHP functions were elusive and mysterious until I read this book. PHP now does my bidding. It's hard for anyone to go through the entire book without being infected with sound coding habits that matter in production. 5 stars!

I had no problems registering the Kindle version, downloading the extra chapters, downloading the source code, and accessing the web version. I just went to the site, signed in (I have used it before), entered the ISBN on the "Accessing the Free Web Edition" page that is just before section I. I had to answer one question from the content of the Kindle edition, and all the on-line content was available. I used a previous edition of this book several years ago to write a web-based database program. I am moving it to a server that uses PHP 7. I have already read some of this book and I find that it is exactly what I need to port my MySQL database to PHP 7.

A really bible for web developers
This is a really bible for web developers who use PHP 5.6 and MySQL 5.7. The book also covers PHP 7. For a person who starts to learn PHP and MySQL, chapters such as web security, scaling up for large projects, integrating JavaScript, debugging in this book are really useful.

Really useful for beginner to intermediate
Bought an earlier copy about 10 years ago and had this as an update and also to move from paper to digital as I have little space and the book is pretty solid.

It's just okay.
-Contains mistakes in some code examples -Does not explain some things very clearly. Lack of good examples. -I bought the book because I wanted a hard copy and the final chapters are available online only (omg)

I find it surprisingly good in arriving
I've studied PHP some 15 years ago, then worked on it as a web developer. I needed this book for a revision and knowing what's new with PHP7. I find it surprisingly good in arriving, each time, right to the point and delivering lots of accurate information with interesting, relevant examples. Very clear style. Well designed progression. I just would have liked to read in French, but besides that, I can't see anything to be improved in this book.
