Potentially it could be a good machine, but there is a problem with stripped threads in the vertical plate that the laser head slider board attaches to. The left M5 screw will not tighten as the threads in the plate appear to be stripped. The plate is not thick or hard enough for the threads to last and these are used often - every time you change the thickness of the target material. I emailed the service contact listed in the documentation; but the only reply I got was questioning my email address association with their database. Since I purchased it through Amazon they wouldn't have it. Apparently their admin filtered my question which never made it to the technical service dept with my simple fix recommendation. Even tried feedback through the Amazon link with no response. Plan to send it back and look for a similar one from a more responsible mfr/sales.

If you are an experienced user, this is probably a good inexpensive machine. For the beginner, welllll. I am old (I was around when mud was invented), but computer literate and reasonably handy with tools. The build instructions are OK, but seem to assume a certain familiarity with this type of machine. The neophyte will need to read the instruction very carefully and be patient. The parts packages and tools enclosed are really good. You will get it done, but it will take a little time. Inkscape, the recommend image software, is very good, IF you are familiar with drawing software. As a veteran CAD user, it gave me fits. For me this was a hiccup, not a major issue. The machine software LaserGRBL is excellent. Follow the manual and use a little common sense and you will get results. The machine was well packaged and of very high quality. So, if you want this type of toy and are willing put in some effort, this is good buy.

For a beginner laser, I am really impressed with this little unit! The overall size is 2'x2'. I bought LightBurn for the software to control the unit, and am upgrading to an Air Assist to help with cutting and prevent burning for deep engraving.I am able to cut 6mm ply, but oddly only in circles, square and rectangular shapes just burn and I am hoping the air assist will cure that.I recommend making a "burn cheat sheet" for settings and reference.I am deducting a star because after just a few uses, the adjusting screw on the laser head has already stripped out, and the head doesn't go "to the floor". This laser could be used to engrave a table top or larger sheet of whatever you're burning, so I'd like to be able to drop the head a few more mm.No other problems so far, will change the review if needed.

End of story, just plain old fashioned awesome.I have been getting into all kinds of cool stuff over the last few years. I love doing design work and building things. I get super into molding, and casting, and that led to foam work, and 3d printing. It really is cool living in the future, that is for sure.I can't draw to save my life, but I love being able to work out a design on the computer, and then make it into a reality.This engraver was just the next step in that making universe.Ultimately, I wanted a way to customize a few parts for my motorcycle, and a few prototypes for a couple of games I am working on. I did a little research, which led me to this. Rather than sending my stuff out to someone else, or trying (and failing) to do my own engraving with my dremel, I could program up the engraving, and use this to do it mechanically, and automatically.I was sold, and couldn't be happier with my results. When I saw I could also use it to cut with, for laser cut parts for building models, I was blown away. This was one of those things I read about in science fiction as a kid and always wanted. Much like 3d printing, this is definitely the future.The first thing I worked on was some dice trays. I downloaded the software, and got to work installing it on my PC. It went easy enough, and after a few hours, I had some success building the work files.I tried using LaserGRBL first, and while it worked, I did finally spring for LightBurn as a paid alternative. It had a few features which I liked a little better after reading more about them.This is definitely a high quality product, worth every penny. I've already saved more than I spent on this in work I would have otherwise sent out to others to do. And the possibilities are limitless.I know this is one of those things that will absolutely revolutionize how I do things, and how I look at the world. It is an awesome tool, and makes it that much easier to move things from my imagination, to the real world.I wish I had bought one of these so long ago, I wasted so much money paying someone else to do what I could do myself, and with less turn around time. You live, You learn.

Since I am completely new to cnc routers, grbl drivers and software and this setup and use was extremely easy and this has added extreme value to my workshop. I am pretty excited that the small cost for this equipment looks to pay for itself by the end of the month and start funding some larger tool purchases. I highly recommend following video guides from YouTube, i used ElectronicsNmore and he led me through it all with great success. I have already been overwhelmed with requests and this one tool opens up a whole new world of possibilities to come out of my hobby!

I am really happy with the machine. Great Value and easy to operate. For a hobby user it is perfect. I am giving 4 stars because one of the aluminum profiles came without the threads, so I had to do it myself. And also one of the screws came damaged. Besides that the assembly was easy

This engraver is awesome! I completely bought it on a whim and was very worried about it being complex or difficult to use. I couldnt Have been more wrong! Very easy to set up, very easy to use, results are great. On my first attempt I got Exactly what I wanted Although I do Need some practice. Overall great buy
