Great Value and Perfect for Our Craft Needs!

This wax was a great value and was perfect for our sand candle craft project! I purchased eight of these for use as part of our vacation Bible school crafts. We had over 300 kids make sand candles. The wax melted well and began to harden within only 10 to 15 minutes of pouring. We were able to send the sand candles home with the kids the same day they made them. The only problem I had was estimating how much wax to purchase. For the sand candle project, I made one and used about 3.5 ounces of wax for my mold. I used this as my estimate for purchasing wax. Most of the kids did not make their sand candle molds as large as I did and we ended up with lots of extra wax. We actually used about 2 ounces of wax per student (on average). This was still a great value and I would purchase again if I ever need more wax!

New candle makers should start here

This general purpose wax is a good middle place for candle makers to start. This is nice clean wax and melts evenly. The melting point is 130° f. This is just the wax, if you want to mold a candle without flaws and that will have a higher melting point (which will make it burn longer) you will need to add a stabilizer (I add about a tablespoon of stearic acid per pound of wax, plus dye chips.) If you want absolutely mottle and flaw free candles vybar is a good additive. The 10lbs slabs are unwieldy to handle (especially if you are working in a small kitchen) so I've found that it works best to lay it over a wooden broom handle still in the bag it came in and use my weight to break it into smaller roughly 1lbs pieces, I have tried using my bandsaw on it a few times and found that as soon as it's cut if I'm not careful the pieces will bond again before the entire cut is made.

Excellent wax for candle making

This is as cheap and easy as it gets. I recommend using a chisel and hammer to break it down into manageable sizes when making candles. Cutting with a knife is not really an option but the chisel method worked great. I used the chisel on a cutting board from the thrift store and had no issues breaking the entire 10lb block down to smaller pieces.

Excellent value and good performance for DIY projects in my experience

I like this product for mixing with beeswax etc to make DIY waterproofing treatments for leather, canvas, outdoors gear, etc. As for the product performance it is exactly as I'd expect and you get a decent value buying this large bulk block. It has lasted me a long time so far, with much leftover for future projects. When it does run out I would reorder the same assuming the price is still fair. The only drawback I find is that the beeswax I buy comes in pellets whereas the paraffin comes in this solid block. The pellets make weighing out precise ratios much easier than breaking off irregular chunks of this solid block. But overall I am very satisfied.

Great wax for survival candles/stoves

I use this wax when making my survival candles and stove fuel canisters. Using any metal canister with a lid, roll up cardboard into a log that is the same diameter as the inside of the canister. Cut the cardboard roll so it can be placed in the canister but still have a lip of empty space at the top. Melt this wax in an aluminum pitcher or other container designed to melt wax, then pour the melted wax over the cardboard inside of the canister. Let the hot wax creep into the cardboard (it will settle down in many times as you're pouring), and fill to leave just a bit of the cardboard exposed above the wax level. Let harden, and you now have a candle/stove fuel that will burn hot for hours.

Making Crayon Candles

I used this to finish off crayon candles. It worked great! I was concerned that we wouldn’t see the crayons through this wax, but we could see all the students’ crayons. Melted quickly and easily in a double boiler. Breaking apart was a bit difficult. Used a mat knife and hammer.

Good quality for column candles.

When my children were little, I had a candle-making business out of my home on a very small scale. I also worked part-time for the company in Seattle that made the metal molds for the column candles. We sold wax for containers as well as columns. This wax is of the same good quality as Pourette sold to their customers and that I used. I recommend this wax for column candles. The one drawback is that the price has become so inflated for anything made from petroleum.

ALOT of wax.

This was even more wax than i thought it was going to be. I use it to make woodstove fire starter. The wax being all one chunk is a little more inconvenient but i just used a rubber mallet and broke it up into chunks and threw them into gallon freezer bags for future use. Good value for the money. Will buy again.
