Well, I loved it while it lasted.
After a long wait, I finally got this pad recently. It took a mere few minutes to break it in, and soon I was completing songs on expert with ease. The buttons were easy to reach, and unlike plastic pads, more difficult for you to lose the buttons and step elsewhere. As if the arrows scrolling down the screen weren't mesmerizing enough, observers took an odd fascination in watching the pad light up with every step. Connecting it was also a cinch. One thing that I realized was that the moment I stood on the pad, it seemed to give a little. I was dismayed at first, but ignored it until I could not, for it cracked three days after it was delivered. The crack in the right arrow not only affects that arrow, but also affects the left arrow as well. I feel like I'm using a plastic pad now -- to press buttons, I must awkwardly and ungainly jump and lift my feet. This is a great starters pad, however, you can only start with it. This pad will not give you what you ask for. I personally recommend a more durable pad from a more reliable seller.

I Feel I Need to Correct Some Things w/ an Updated Review of This Pad
Title says it all, folks.I read a lot of reviews about this pad and another pad commonly for sale in the Amazon marketplace. Originally, I was going to settle with the other pad, but decided to give this one a chance because the other pad would not ship to my location (Japan, of all things!).First of all, I took it out of the box and was infuriated because I thought they shipped me the wrong pad (it has a VGA port for easy controller box connection). Eventually, found out that the controller box was shipped with the item, it was just hiding as a spare bit of Styrofoam (yes, I can be that stupid, sometimes).Anyway.. I plugged it all in and immediately hopped on my bad boy and started scanning through the songs. At first, I played with shoes because well, it's a metal pad. But being that I have traditionally ALWAYS played sans shoes (even in the arcade), I quickly ditched the shoes and started playing in socks. Let me tell you, whole new world of difference there between a foam pad and a metal pad. However, this pad lacks the traditional cross struts found on most DDR pads between the arrows, thus making this virtually pain free play.I found it a lot easier to adapt to the 'feel' of the pad once I took off my shoes and felt for the minuscule separation between plates. Playing sans shoes also allows you to feel the mechanism under the Plexiglass plates that activates the signal to the game that you are stepping on the correct arrows, so it becomes easier and easier to stay in one place. So far, I am in love with this pad and I can't see (yet) why there are some negative reviews on it. Then again, I don't play Heavy difficulty 100% of the time, so perhaps it isn't built up to the standards of continual abuse. And the pad I received is not a knock-off. It is a DDR GAME registered pad (for those that may be worrying about the quality). If interested in who I purchased it from on Amazon, I would be happy to tell you.

It took a while but I finally found a nice metal ddr pad
It took a while but I finally found a nice metal ddr pad. I have been playing this game for years and it is a great way to get in shape. I have gone through so many foam and silk pads. I finally decided to get something more durable that would last longer. It's a really fun game for any age and it's a game that test your endurance.

Great but only one thing that sucks
Ive used friends metal dance pads before and loved it so I finally got one of my own. Its great and way easier then the foam ones.Only thing that sucks about it is that before the game even starts you have to hold the start button down on the connector box that is attached to the cord or the game will go crazy. Then after every song you have to pick up the box again before it ends to hold the start button other wise the game starts shuffling threw things on its own.Only draw back of it.

So Much Better Than Soft Pads
This pad is amazing! It is so much more fun than using a soft pad, and it is much more accurate. I usually play on it with shoes because that is how you would play in an arcade. The only bad thing about this pad is that the arrows crack pretty easily, and they're sort of expensive... about $12 each -- but I'm a pretty aggressive DDR player, I play on heavy and challenge and I stomp pretty hard, so it might work better for someone more gentle.

Works flawlessly
Was able to use it on my PS2 with no problem. Very tactile and responsive when playing and is easy to put up when I'm done.

This pad is just AWFUL. Within five minutes of use, FIVE MINUTES, the "up" and "right" arrows stopped working. I thought maybe buying this metal pad would be more efficient than a foam pad; apparently this one is not.
