Holy crap, this thing's a blast from the past
Holy crap, this thing's a blast from the past. Everything about it just screams "late 90s!" from the artstyle of the background to the included poster advertising a combined model, complete with cool text and lightning. The box itself is basically a thin cardboard sleeve, similar in material to other Lego boxes, but much thinner. You open it from the bottom by punching your thumb in a tab and popping it open. Doesn't damage it too much. Inside, there is a plastic case and three folded pieces of paper between the case and cardboard. One is a heavily outdated Lego technic catalog, one is a double-sided poster featuring the various collectible disks on one side and a combiner model on the other. The final item is the instruction booklet, which features a portion of the instructions for the combiner model at the end.The case itself is sealed on one side with a little sticker. Cut that, and you can open up the case. The pieces are inside a small, hard plastic bag similar to the ones small pieces come in in modern Lego sets. Speaking of the pieces, nearly all of the pieces in this set do not exist anymore. It's a great little parts pack of somewhat rare colors and nifty parts. I can see many of them being useful for MOCing, such as the head and gearbox parts. The gearbox enable the pickaxes to swing when you push and pull a little knob at the back. The disk launcher works great, but the disk constantly falls out of the launcher, so it can be difficult to actually fire it or keep the disk there during play or display. While not the best Lego set ever, I'm still very satisfied with my purchase. I'm a bit amazed it arrived brand new, and was only $15. I don't recall who the seller was, but they wrapped the everliving heck out of the mailing box. It's obvious they care about their products and customers and don't try to overcharge them. However... I do think they could have sold it for a higher price, considering the product originally sold for six to seven dollars and is very rare today. It's a time capsule of a bygone age, and a great little piece for display or scavenging parts from.
