NETGEAR WNDR3300 RangeMax Dual Band Wireless-N Router

I bought this router in July 2008, and it has lasted longer without any hardware issues than most wireless routers I have owned. After the v1.045 firmware upgrade, this has become the most stable wireless router that I have owned. The router has no issues with DCHP, DNS, routing load nor hardware stability. I have two Tivo's, a PS3, a Slingbox, a VoIP adapter, a Skype adapter, an HP MediaSmart WHS, and four laptops that connect at any given time to the internet... as well as many other IP devices (such as a print server and NAS) which just connect to the local network from different rooms... and this router supports them all for weeks at a time without rebooting... While it may not be the fastest router on the block due to its 100baseT connections and limited Wireless N-support, it can support concurrent dual-band wireless as long as the G is configured for 54Mbps only.Currently, no complaints... I just wish it were as fast as the Netgear WNDR-3700, though not sure how stable that model is.

The configuration was mostly straight-forward. My Apple TV had issues staying connected to the N side of the router. I switched it to a frequency in the middle of the N range from the low end of the N range and it took care of that issue. The only other issue I think was a problem with the client devices. They would list the N network, although they were only b/g capable. Paying attention to which SSID (since you set a different SSID for the N and G sides) was a simple resolution. The router had been solid. The lights in the top made my utility room look like a spacecraft landed in it, but a button push turns them off. I'd buy another one, if I needed one.

This is the second router of it's kind that I have, so it meets my expectations as far as the actual product goes. It cane in a thin white envelope without any protective materials what-so-ever. No registration or appropriate materials for the unit. For a new unit, without packaging or manufacturer data sheets, such delivery hit an all time low. I won't purchase from that seller again.

First got an apple airport extreme dual band. Limited configurability and dropped wired ethernet connection to my macbook pro every few days. Had to unplug the ethernet cable and re-plug to get connectivity.Then got a D-link dual n band. Also had this ethernet cable problem. Added the problem that my wireless devices would suddenly lose their secure connection and ask for me to re-enter my wpa key. This was VERY annoying.Now got this netgear with low expectations since it was 1/2 the price of the others. On the down side, it does not have near as many configuration options as the d-link, and setting up my static ip computers and NAT tunnels etc was not as smooth. And there were arbitrary limitations, such as the inability to forward port 80 (for some reason they don't want you to do that). Another problem is the annoying lights on top that flash when the antennas are active, but you can turn that off py pressing down on the top dome (unfortunately they come back on every time you access the configuration page of the router)BUT - it solved the other major problems I'd been having (dropped wired internet and dropped WPA keys). The Good: This router was easy to set up, it only took about 15 minutes to start up and configure. When this router was operating, it had excellent range and speed.The Irritating: AT LEAST twice weekly the router would crash, and would require a reboot cycle which also involved restarting the modem, and took about 10 minutes. The lights, seriously this thing is like a UFO. The central blue light is enough to light up our entire office. Toward the end of its life the power button broke, so I was stuck with this machines noxious light blinking and flashing.The Bad: Wasted ~70 bucks of a router that I spent more time being irritated with, than enjoying, and had to replace in less than 3 months. I was so happy to break this router and throw it in the garbage.Instead of giving this trashy router a 1 star rating, I was kind and gave it 2. I felt it deserved another star because of its decent performance in the short periods of operation between crashes.

outstanding...bought a refurb from reforger, standard shipping (yeah right). I expected it to take 2 weeks, maybe 10 days...it shipped monday and got it wed.Pulled it out and setup was a breeze. Need to pay attention to the normal info in the box like the 10.0.0.1 ip and admin-password default signin and password, but netgear menu was normal, just what I expected.What I didn't expect was the immediate online update built right in(definitely cool). It eliminated one of the more convoluted steps with a new device. Every netgear upgrade I've done has been better everytime. If netgear keeps this up I'm going to expect a new and better surprise each time. There is a lot more cool stuff added including port forwarding upgrades, radio shut-off,...etc, geek stuff that will realy wow you but too geeky for most so I'll leave that for a surprise. The blue ball button connect is just too easy and may bum out some of the geeks but they'll get over it. The immediate speed and connect with no drops made me wish I'd gotten an 'N' card with it. In fact that's why I'm writing the review, because I came back to laughin' Bezos' site to get an "N" card. Order the card and router together or you'll be back again just for the speed. Way too easy.
