heat resistant heavy duty
great for out of position like OH/4G/4F super heavy duty. if you are doing light diy shop work/flat position. I would recommend getting flame retardant cotton jacket. this jacket is overkill for that and its not very breathable. But if you need a lot of protection for out of position (especially flux core/SMAW) I recommend this jacket its nearly 1/8" solid leather all over.

Nice jacket, but short lived.
Overall this is a pretty decent welding jacket. Out of the box I was impressed with the style and stitching. The liner in the shoulder area is a plus. I rarely use a pocket in my welding jackets, so placement is not an issue.Problems I have had include breaking the posts on three of the snaps in less than a month. I had anticipated this problem and had ordered extra at the same time. Even with lubrication, the snaps were so tight they would not come apart. The replacements are much better. I used Dritz Heavy Duty Mighty Snaps sold elsewhere on Amazon. Also the stitching is letting loose on the left arm along with a tear forming next to seam on the same arm. The leather seems to be weak in that area. I have seen this in leather welding gloves occasionally. I will have to glue a patch over this area and resew the sleeve. The fit and freedom of movement is good, so I will get another when this one is wore out.Update: (8/19/2014) The welding jacket wore out in the left sleeve area. I usually get a full year out of my welding jackets. This one lasted only three months.I was going to try another one, but the price has increased and I can get one that I know will last for less.I have removed a star for the failure of the leather.

No more dancing under equipment as my skin is burning
Had a "fire resistant" jacket before and on the farm welding standing up is often not a option, welding under a bulldozer is a experience of man vs molten metal. I weld my share of items with a 110, 220 single and a 220 3 phase welder and this jacket was reasonable price and I suspect I can retire my hole ridden sweatshirt that was burned thru due to the old welding jacket not keeping molten metal from burning thru and plastering me with splatter. I was worried about it being hard to move around but that wasn't the case. I don't have experience with some of the more expensive jackets but for all hobby/farm use I would saw w/o a question this should fit the bill.

This jacket is awesome
I was surprised by the high quality of the jacket when it arrived. The leather is thick and it has really nice stiching. If you're considering buying the xxl, and you aren't that big but have a broad chest think about buying the xl instead. The xxl is huge. I am 5'10" 240 lbs and it's too big. My xl is in the mail. Beautiful jacket-years of use out of it. Buy it

Nice jacket but very poor quality buttons
I have only used this jacket MAYBE 15 times at the MOST. The two lower jacket buttons were very difficult to undo and then they both popped-off on the inside snap. One broken snap would be acceptable; two snaps means low-quality materials. I could rivet them back on... but really? Not what I expected from Hobart. Will NOT buy again.

Great but snap broke at first use
Great coat, to bad the second snap broke the very first time it was put on. No exchanges or refunds must contact manufacturer. So we got a great deal on a great welding jacket and now have to pay to fix it or buy a new one. Very frustrating on my end

Solid
I am a recreational welder on a small farm. This jacket is well built of thick leather. Snaps are high quality and fit adjusts well. I am 6'1" 200# and XL fits well.

cheap
bought this because I'm starting a welding class and didnt want to spend big money at the moment. Pulled it out of the box and it was buttoned up, went to unbutton to try it on an the very first button broke and then taking it off another broke even while being careful. the size was a bit smaller than expected for an xl. Not to familiar with welding jackets but its extremly uncomfortable couldnt see myself working consistently with this on maybe its just a bit to small or its just the way these jackets are. Wouldve returned it but i needed it right away and plan on buying a nicer one down the line anyway. Only reason im giving 2 stars instead of one is it was cheap, you get what you pay for.

Good leather, cheap buttons
Only been welding with this over my coveralls for about 2 weeks , destroyed almost all of the buttons if I didn’t treat them like they were made out of glass. I highly recommend NOT buying this as it will only last you as long as the buttons do.Hobart, time to upgrade your quality.I mean sure $100 wouldn’t miss it but now looking for another one, i would never buy again
