Q: Can you only use cinch spiral binding? Or when shopping for spirals what am I looking for to make sure they are compatible?

I'm sure you can use other brands with the same appearance of cinch spiral binding. Another brand I've use is zutter, with little to no manipulation of the wire spacing. I just having seen any other brands. The only type not compatible are binding combs(as they are much closer in spacing.)

Q: what is the difference between the Cinch and the Heidi swapp cinch machine?

The machines just make different shape holes. This one makes round and the Heidi Swapp makes square holes.

Q: My back covers fell off. The rest of the pages stayed together. I used 3/8 wires and the dial was correct. What could cause this?

Make sure the wire is tightly closed, if there is a gap it will loose the cover, then pages over time. Once you’ve cinched it, turn and do it again. Also the longer you use the book (this goes for store bought too) the wire loosens so just give a squeeze every now and then. When I cinch the wire, I always do it one click smaller than the wire I use. This way the wire is tighter. HTH
