Q: Does this printer work on wifi network in the house. ie all pcs and apple devices can find and print to it like the multifunction ink jets from canon

Several things: Mine is wired in to the network and all wireless devices can print to it. I don't know if it can be configured to connect wirelessly, itself. Be advised that someone set the configuration password on mine by mistake and there is no way short of taking to Canon for a paid for service call to get it reset back to factory defaults. Having working with networks and computers for 20 years - this is unacceptable for me to have to deliver it to Canon, pay 250£ to reset it to factory default. All other devices that I've every worked with allow you to do it with local access to the device. So if you do buy it, don't forget any of the pin's or passwords that you use. :-)

Q: Is the DPI spec (600) high enough to scan (archive) old photos?

IMHO, Not to an archival quality, no.

Q: Does it come with cartridges?

Yes - Black cartridge, Starter Cyan cartridge, Starter Magenta cartridge & Starter Yellow cartridge
