It's a shame this isn't a bit better. I bought it to use with a proper Canon 100mm 1:1 macro, rather than the optional 10 dioptre close up lens. Removing the lens unfortunately makes the barrel shorter, which means the slide is too close to the lens for 1:1 or focus to be possible. In other words it's useless without an extension tube - and it will need to be adjustable. The other issue is that the slide and film holders are only feebly located by flimsy spring clips. The holders themselves are not bad, no worse than used on film scanners. But the housing is cheap, sloppy and nasty. For casual use with an ordinary lens this duplicator might be OK, though the optical quality possible with the +10 lens is never going to be good. For me it's a pile of slightly useful bits that I am cannibalising. There is a gap in the market for someone to make a really good bellows mount slide/film holder, for those of us with lots of film to scan at the highest possible quality. Sadly this certainly isn't it.

Brilliant, simple, piece of kit

I'm delighted with this piece of kit. I have thousands of 35 mm slides - some going back to the 1940s - and I have had little pleasure or success making even remotely satisfactory digital scans of them with a flatbed scanner and really good software. I almost resorted to projecting them on a screen and photographing that! Instead, this simple and very effective attachment to my camera produces as good a duplicate of a colour slide as my camera is capable of taking. When zoomed into, the images contain all the detail I could wish for. As another reviewer also said, you may need (and I did need) to buy a set of generic step-down rings to get the duplicator to fit your particular lens - inexpensive and easy to obtain - and for really consistent results, a good studio light with a daylight filter will be useful - though a sunny summer sky has been giving me perfectly satisfactory results in my first trial runs with it.

The best method to transfer film to digital

I carefully researched this unit and method of transfering transparencies and negatives before buying and my initial results are positive. I take out the lens element and use the unit with extention rings fited between this and the camera body. Also a good colour ballanced LED video light is essential as a light source.

Not for me.

Couldn’t get it to copy correctly. I used two different cameras one was full frame the other cropped, four different lenses and I couldn’t get a copy sharp across the whole frame.
