Emerson 1F86-344 Non-Programmable Thermostat for Single-Stage Systems

We needed to replace an old White-Rodgers 1F86-244 non-programmable thermostat. I called White-Rodgers a division of Emerson and they said that even though the 1F86-344 is not the most current replacement, if I could find one, it would be a perfect 1:1 replacement for our older unit. I ordered on Saturday morning and the new unit arrived by 4pm the same day. It took my husband and I about 20 minutes to switch them out. It was super easy as the instructions were easy to follow.When we switched the unit on, it started working with no problem and our home was once again cool. The unit regulated perfectly.We highly recommend this unit. Thanks to CS Tech staff at White-Rodgers for their assistance as well.

I had an old RiteTemp analog thermostat that had about a 10 degree swing, and it really irritated me with this colder winter. My wall texture is a Splatter Knockdown, and the old thermostat is just shy of 6"x4", so my mission was to find a replacement with a similar footprint that was non-programable (easy to use).It didn't take long to realize that Amazon does not publish the correct size for an item, often it lists the size of the package, like that's gonna help. I have sent corrections on several thermostats, but noticed that the original dimensions are still the same, which was a waste of time.The Emerson "1F86-344 N" fit the bill coming in at about 6"x4" at the bulges (it's slightly curved). I had 4 wires (W,Y,G,R) for a single stage system. Everything works great, and the temperature swing is just a couple of degrees now.

If you need a thermostat that is not programmable, and just need to set the temperature, this is a great option.

I called White-Rodgers (Emerson) and was told this was a direct replacement for the discontinued model I had. They were correct down to the mounting holes being in the exact same location. It even has the red jumper wire pre configured in the proper location.After powering down the AC/Heating system it took a whole 10 minutes to do the swap. It probably would have taken less time if I did not have fat fingers. The written instructions are not very helpful unless you know how to read schematics. The best thing to do is take a cell phone photo of the old connections and match them up on the new one. The only bump I encountered was the fact that my old one had screw head terminals where the wire is shaped like a "C" and secured under the screw heads. The new one has terminals that grip the wire inserted into a port on the terminal and then the screw is turned until the inner jaws clamp down on the wire. Easy to do, just different from the original. Make sure to have enough of the plastic insulation removed to expose enough bare wire and give each wire a gentle tug to make sure the inner jaws have gripped the wire securely.Update- Winter is almost over here in Texas and it worked well controlling the heat.

Our Thermostat with a similar model number (1F86-336) went on the Fritz after a power outage. The registered temperature fluctuated between 20° - 85°. Therefore, the air conditioner wouldn't kick on. Swapped this out (removal of the cover, five wires, and two screws) and back on in reverse, and it started to accurately reflect the correct ambient temperature. New mounting screw holes lined up with the old ones. Very happy with my next day fix from Amazon.*Never work with live power.
