Programmable but not acurate

Good:-easy to program-easy to installIncluded labels very helpful and allowed me to install it in under an hour. I am not a HVAC guy, but dyi projects are my thing.Bad:-doesn't accurately detect room tempDoes not want to change it's temp with the room temp. When placing another thermometer right by it they don't change at the same rate. For example: both will show 69. As the temp drops the other one will go down as low as 67 or 66 while this thermostat still shows 69! Likewise when it does kick the heat on the other thermometer will show 72 before this shows 70!Going to try to put the included standoffs from the wall into it and see if the additional air circulation helps. This is mounted right were my previous thermostat was though and it did not have this issue. With this current issue I would not buy it again, although i'm not sure it's worth the trouble to replace it with another one that may do the same thing.12/10/2011: Added the standoffs and it's worse. Looking into sending this back for a refund. 64 to 70.5 when this thing reads 68.5 to 69.5 is too far off for me.

Stick with what works

I bought this thermostat from a Home Depot 2 years ago. It was easy to operate and the wheel on the side of the device makes temperature adjustments fast and easy. It runs on 2 AAA batteries for about a year.I was repainting the wall in my hallway and accidentally dropped the stat on the ground. It broke the screen(life happens that way), so I set out for another at HD. In the mean time, HD decided to switch to Honeywell stats. I bought a Honeywell and installed it. It registered so poorly that I set out to locate a 6025 RiteTemp(Stick with what works). Amazon not only offered the RiteTemp, but at a $10 discount over the "Orange Monster". Satisfied.Buy this stat if you make regular adjustments to your existing daily heat program for comfort, and are looking for a fast, simple device with good features.

The Cons Outweigh the Pros

Pros:- Instructions-- Multiple Languages.-- The installation instructions that came with the product were easy to follow and I had my old digital thermostat unwired and this new one wired up in about 30 minutes.- The instructions to program the device are very easy to follow and thus only took me about 5 to 10 minutes to setup to the temps & times I want.- Programming-- To answer a question someone at work gave me, 7 day programmable means that you can program each day separately.-- You get 4 settings per day: Morning, Day, Afternoon/Evening, Night.-- Once you setup one day, you can easily copy it to the next day and so on.Cons:- Even though i programmed this thing to keep my temperature at 78.5, it stays on even though the temperature is 75.5. You would think that if the thing is smart enough to tell you what the temperature is, it would know to kick off when it's 3 degrees below that. On the flip side - on a hot day, it got up to 82 and was still off. I verified that all the settings were configured correctly, and that it wasn't set on Hold. I had to manually adjust the temperature and then turn it on to get it to kick on. By this point, what's the difference than doing this and what i was doing with my non-programmable one. Nothing, besides being out the cash.To me, if the device can't do what it's supposed to do, who cares that it's got all the fancy settings. Thus, I give it 2 stars.

Easy to program

Simple to install. Easy to program. Full 7-day x 4 settings per day. Nothing on the outside except a dial that can be used to override the program setting means there is little chance that a user can mess it up. Program buttons can be locked out. And to top it all off - the price was great. I have installed three of these at our church and intend to install several more.

Eats Batteries

Got this thermostat for a song off of woot thinking it was a much better deal then an expensive honeywell. When we built our house 8 years ago I bought two honeywell thermostats off ebay for about $40 each and they have been excellent. This unit was easy to install and looks good but the first problem I ran into was when I tried to use rechargeable batteries. The unit powered on but wouldn't close the relay to turn on the furnace but didn't indicate low battery. Replaced the batteries with standard alkalines and it seemed to be working fine. About one month later the heat didn't come on and it was complaining about low battery so I replaced them and it was back working. Another month goes by and low battery again. It also seemed to have trouble maintaining an accurate temperature - sometimes it was one or two degrees cooler or warmer then the set point. After the 4th set of batteries I have just replaced it with a used honeywell I purchased off of ebay. One nice feature of the honeywell is that it can figure out when it needs to come on in order to get the room heated or cooled to the desired temperature at the desired time. For example if you want your house to be 68 degrees when you wake up at 6:00 - it will figure out when to turn on the furnace - not too early and not too late.
