This is pretty simple to Install, and has great features. You can use it for anything.One con is it is not very easy to fit in the switch box. It's pretty small but if you have a lot of wires stuffed in there it is difficult.I love that the switch still works. I have it on an outdoor light, and the light turns on at dusk and off at 1 AM. That's the automatic part. The switch allows it to still be turned on or off. If it's off, taking the switch to On will turn it on. And then you can turn it back off, or, if you leave the switch On, it will turn off based on the programming.

This shelly 1PM (power monitoring) smart relay is a really fantastic device. It allows you to make a number of dumb devices smart, without having to spend a lot of money replacing switches etc...Even though this is not generally advertised, the Shelly relays can be modified (via the internet) to work perfectly with homekit...Some very smart person has been incredibly generous to not only develop the code, to flash these relays, so that they work with homekit. They have extended that generosity to uploaded instructions (and even a video) outlining exactly how to do that process...There are cheaper smart relays out there. However, I have used them and they have a high failure rate...I have quite a few Shelleys in my house, controlling; lights, fireplace, fans, heaters etc etc. I definitely recommend considering them if you want to go that step further into the smart home realm!

I have a couple of these. I watched a few YouTube video ls thinking that would be the easiest way to learn how to use this, but honestly, the diagrams on their site are more helpful.My setup is the shellys for use with siri. I tried this with homebridge. That worked for simple setups but it didn't work for my three way switch. Siri could turn the switch on but not off. So I flashed these with a homekit compatible firmware and they work flawlessly now.It was fairly straightforward. I can imagine lots of uses for these, but I won't be giving any to my non handy brother. He'd never get it to work. If you are comfortable tinkering with things it's a great product. If you want to just wire it in, scan a qr code and it all just works, then it's not the product for you.

I installed one of these in Jan 2020 to monitor power to a non-smart dishwasher. It worked well. I used the power usage cycle in Home Assistant, and sent a notification to my phone when the dishwasher had completed the wash cycle. It made a dumb dishwasher smart. Today, April 2, 2025, the Shelley 1PM died. During its lifetime, we replaced the dishwasher with a newer model that is smart, so other than power consumption monitoring, there was no longer a need for the Shelley. It served us well. The only downsides to the Shelley 1PM are that it did die after 5 years. We have other home electronics going on 20+ year usage without an issue. I was never happy with how hot the device ran. I suspect the heat was a contributing factor to its 5 year lifespan coming to an end.

I have a Shelly 1PM connected to the Shelly cloud. Operationally the Shelly 1PM works great, however; it is a major hassle to get it connected into the Shelly App. I spent 15 minutes the day I got it trying to get it to connect, I finally I got it to connect using the Add Device with an IP Address. The app is not friendly to add devices but works like a charm once the device is added. Hopefully this issue is resolved with a firmware and app update soon.

Amazon wants me to mention "thickness" "stretch" and "alexa integration".So here goes...I bought the PM for my fireplace thinking I would use the extra monitoring for something but that was a stretch. I see no reason to monitor the fireplace now.I ended up ordering the smaller, non PM, Shelly 1 after I broke this trying to understand how to switch to DC mode. It is a button, nothing has to break. They should explain this in the instructions. Especially with other models using a different method. Oh and the thickness between the models is the same.I would never allow alexa integration to control anything in my house. That is a dangerous game to play, especially with a fireplace. We all know Amazon can't be trusted. They have become the new Walmart and you wouldn't allow Walmart to control your house, would you?
