Fastest USB 2.0 drive I own 32GB 1-27-12

It's hard to truly know what speed these drives will be until you test them out and the Transcend 600 32GB is the fastest one that I have found... Unless you have USB 3.0 ports you won't find a faster drive at the price... Transcend makes a 620 flash drive that is said to be faster but it is basically only sold by the company itself and the price is double that of the 600 (I paid around $35 for the 32GB 600)Write Speed 16 - 19 MB/secRead Speed 30MB +The advertised write speed on the package is 15 MB/sec but it actually exceeds that and normally is transferring/writing at 17-18 MB/sec. I own a Kingston G2 32GB flash drive and it tops off at 15 MB/sec and it has stood the test of time (about 10 months of daily and multiple transfers from 700MB to 10GB) without failing. I have found that the rest of my flash drives, when first plugged in, come up with a promt that says there is something wrong with the drive and asks to scan the drive. The drives still work fine but it's obvious that they aren't doing so great. They are PNY, Verbatim and the other is a SanDisk. The reason I am saying all this is because I don't know how well the Transcend drive will hold up but if it does I won't buy a drive from anyone eles..BTW... The only complaint people might have with Transcend's drives is that the cap isn't connected to the drive and honestly that's the dumbest thing to care about, if you are looking for performance this is it... I took the cap off and threw it in the trash the second I got it. The port side of usb drives are solid so unless you are worried about getting it wet(they make waterproof drives) or plan on repeatedly stepping on it the drive will be just fine. If you want something with a good cap get the Kingston I mentioned KINGSTON 32GB DATATRAVELER 101 G2 USB FLASH DRIVE it has a swivel top.

Perfect for what I wanted.

This flash drive is still the USB 2.0 technology, which is fine with me. Some people may gripe about that but it clearly states it in the description, and at the current time, there aren't that many computers/products that utilize the technology for USB 3.0 yet. However this product is still quite fast. I have used it for various reasons. I have loaded the installation of Ubuntu on it and burned a copy of Ubuntu 12.10 from this drive to a CD and it performed quite well. Normally I have a couple of computer programs installed on it for mobile PC services like registry editors and other programs of the like, to clean up my computer and my friends/family's computers without having to install any programs on their computers while cleaning them up and servicing them. I have found that it's excellent for that purpose & extremely quick! I found when I received it, that it had 14.9 GB of space on it but that is fairly standard for the Marketing world that we live in to allow something that is just over a GB less of space to still be qualified for 16GB when the sell it. That is the only reason I gave it 4 stars just because I dislike how they can somewhat lie about the size that they advertise and give you slightly less than they promise. However, performance wise, I would give it 5 stars! Great product.

32GB Space at Reduced Speed?

I use a thumb drive to replace what I once used a portable hard drive to do - mainly backup important files frequently and keep them with me wherever I go. You never know when you might stagger into a library and need to take a quick listen to your latest pirated music collection! So far, this drive has plenty of space left for files but I do notice that smaller files take longer to access compared to my previous drive (a 4GB Transcend). On the plus side, this drive is shorter than the one it replaces - making it less likely to get kicked or stepped on while in the USB port (my tower sits near the floor). To date the cap still fits on snugly, although I do see much potential for it to get lost easily. Instead of twisting it onto a key chain, I threaded a lanyard through the end and clipped it to a cord to wear around my neck. Nothing says "geek" like wearing 32GB wherever you go, unless it's wearing 64GB instead! When plugged into a port, the LED light comes on and stays. Even when "ejected", the light remains. I would have preferred a light that was on only when the drive is active. Come to think of it, this would be a great feature to incorporate in my mate as well!

Pretty fast for me

I purchased this item based on the reviews and the claims of speed. I just got it and quickly did some basic tests copying several files ranging between 40MB to 1.6GB from my hard drive to this pen drive. The pen drive is connected to a powered USB hub, not directly to the computer. The speed indicated by Windows (7 64-bit) while copying goes between 14 and 20 MB/s. I found this speed to be more than acceptable. Maybe because I am used to the 4-8 MB/s from my other pen drives which, granted, are at least 1-2 years old, but I am pleased with it.Copying the files back to the computer indicates a speed between 30 and 57 Mb/s. I am sure there are other factors that come into play here, like the hard disk speed, but I still find it very acceptable. I am using USB 2.0, by the way. I can't say much more about it, since I've only had it for a few hours but, so far, so good.

Small, Reliable, Stylish

My last USB failed, but i got a great deal of use out of it. I decided to go for one that was a little more expensive, but it has been worth it. I download and back-up most of my programs and files and have been able to add much more information on this USB.Its packaging is small and easy to get into, which is a great plus in my book. Easy entrance of use. I have stored it for use in my bag and forgotten it for weeks on end. Each time of use, it is easy and efficient.Highly Recommended. prisrob 10-09-11 Transcend 16 GB JetFlash 500 Retractable USB Flash Drive - TS16GJF530 (White) Transcend JetFlash V30 - 4 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive TS4GJFV30ETranscend JetFlash V30 - 4 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive TS4GJFV30E

Performs as advertised.

I bought the 16GB JetFlash 600 Endurance model. I'm running Debian 7 64-bit and tested the write speed using dd:`time for i in 1 2 3 4 ; do sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/media/Transcend/output"$i".img bs=8k count=500k ; done`which gave me the results:...4194304000 bytes (4.2 GB) copied, 265.981 s, 15.8 MB/s...4194304000 bytes (4.2 GB) copied, 268.464 s, 15.6 MB/s...4194304000 bytes (4.2 GB) copied, 271.655 s, 15.4 MB/sdd: writing `/media/Transcend/output4.img': No space left on device422917+0 records in422916+0 records out3464527872 bytes (3.5 GB) copied, 236.282 s, 14.7 MB/sreal 17m23.886suser 0m0.656ssys 1m8.744sAs you can see, the drive is fast enough that it can be filled to capacity in 17½ minutes.I think the last write appeared marginally slower only because the disk became full and the command tried a few times before concluding there is no space left. Anyway a sustained write speed of over 15 MB/s when writing large files on USB 2.0 flash is excellent, the best I've used, just beating an 8GB OCZ Diesel (no longer available as OCZ went out of business).I tested read speeds using ` for i in 1 2 3; do hdparm -tT /dev/sdd1; done` and the result averaged over 31 MB/s reads. These are very good results and the manufacturer's claims are fully supported (peak write speeds sometimes go over 17 MB/s).The product description on Amazon states "Includes JetFlash Elite Data Software" but actually this isn't the case. However, anyone can easily download the Transcend tools at no cost and without any kind of registration. They seem to be generic formatting and backup tools and a proprietary encyption tool of unknown efficacy. If encryption is important then you would in any case be better off using truecrypt, gpg/pgp, ecryptfs or similar free open source tools which are known to work and can be audited and inspected. Personally I'm very happy to have a high capacity, high performance USB flash drive that doesn't come with crackpot secret proprietary "security" schemes, weird partition table, hidden file systems and all the other BS.The product isn't supplied with a strap but there is a pair of tiny apertures so you can fit a wrist strap or cord.I can't say anything about durability or reliability yet but will update this review in the future. As far as I can tell this is a very good product which performs exactly as claimed and expected.

Fast, Quality Product With Lifetime Warranty

After reading so many positive reviews about this product, I decided to purchase the Transcend 64GB JetFlash 600 Flash Drive to use with my new Smart TV. When the flash drive arrived, I did some testing to see how it would perform and I wasn't disappointed. Read/write rates are really impressive which is very important as I will be using this mainly for copying large videos files from my computer to watch on my new TV. Build quality is also spot-on and to add piece of mind, a limited lifetime warranty comes as standard.Although there are less expensive USB 2.0 flash drives on the market, they do not perform as well as the Transcend 600 (given its impressive transfer rates) and they certainly do not come with a limited lifetime warranty. I'm that impressed with this product, that I will be purchasing a second, smaller capacity Transcend flash drive to use with my games console. To sum up, if you're looking for a fast, quality USB 2.0 flash drive with the added benefit of a lifetime warranty, the Transcend JetFlash 600 is the one to choose.

Impressive speed

This Transcend drive is slim, sleek and shiny. The cap is removable and when in place is quite a snug fit.I wanted a decent sized, fast USB flash drive to transfer video files from my Desktop PC so I can play them via the USB slot on my TV and whilst I've never had a Transcend drive before the previous reviews led me to choose this one.Not disappointed at all - I certainly found this pretty fast. On my Windows 7 desktop transferring 4GB of video files I got a write speed of 17.5 MB/second and read speed of 25.7 MB/second which is certainly faster than any of my other USB flash drives. There are links on the drive to a free download of Transcends Elite Data Management software for backup, recovery and encryption of files and to register the flash drive for their limited lifetime warranty.Whilst the performance/spec of these drives is improving constantly at the time of writing this review I would definitely recommend it.

Fantastic Read, Good write

I used a benchmarking program to measure this flash drives speed. I was not dissapointed. Not with its *read speed anyway. It averaged 25mb/s which is excellent, and at one point it hit 31mb/s! *Write speed is good, it averaged between 15-16mb/s. It did occasionally dip to about 13mb/s but also recorded a maximum speed of 19.2mb/s.For a more 'real world usage' test i also copied 1.8GB worth of NEF image files to the drive and recorded it. It completed it in 1 minute, 59.2 seconds. Averaging, according to Windows Vista, 16.2MB/S.Given that Transcend themselves say: "read speed of 32 Mbps and write speed of up to 18 Mbps", this is very good. One thing I am noticing about Transcend, which other manufacturers would do well to emulate, is that they don't provide massively bloated estimates that their products never actually get close to. In my experience, you can trust their speed estimates. For a usb 2.0 card, it's a high performer and a solid purchase....That being said though, for a future proof investment i would definitely recommend the similarly priced  Transcend 16GB JetFlash 700 Super Speed USB 3.0 Flash Drive  i haven't acutally bought or even used this model, but in general, USB 3.0 is soon to take over. Even if you have a USB 2.0 port, USB 3.0 products still yield slight speed increases. As they're also so similarly priced to USB 2.0 products right now, it's the wise choice.)*Read Speed - how quickly it can play back, or open a file*Write Speed - how quickly it can save or transfer a file (onto itself) Transcend 16GB JetFlash 700 Super Speed USB 3.0 Flash Drive

Fast And Reliable

This drive is marginally more that other 32gb USB drives, but worth it.I bought a "no name" 32gb USB drive, and according to Windows 8, when I write to it, that drive topped out at about 4mb/secThis, on the same Windows 8 PC with the same file (a 3gb video), tops out at just above 20mb/sec write speed, so the "hi speed" claims of this drive are true.Reading it, I found it to top out at around 32mb/sec for the same video file.Very impressive. However, the drive cap is easily lost, as it is just that, a cap with no way to secure it on the key. Don't know how tough the transparent plastic it's encased in will be and there is nothing to hook it on to your keys or anything. But I'm happy to trade those aesthetics for a drive this fast.
