High quality lock that is easy to install
This is a good looking, very sturdy metal door-stopping lock that works well and is available at a good price. The video provided on the product listing was a helpful, step by step tutorial, and made it easy for me to set up, once I found my drill and the appropriate bits. One thing I will say is if you have a tight fitting door, you may need to chisel away some of the molding to get the lock into the narrow space between the door and the frame. I didnโt have to, thankfully, and the door closes easily with it on, but keep that in mind. The metal material is thick, and after locking it, I was unable to open the door, no matter how hard I tried, which is a nice sense of security to have. It also looks nicer than the ball-and-chain type locks you see in hotels, which I was considering getting until I decided on this one. Iโm about to get another one for my garage door as well. Very satisfied!

Great Lock For Added Protection
I live in a neighborhood where home invasions are frequent so i needed to think about what am i going to do to keep my family safe. I am a security conscious person. The first thing i think about is security in any situation i am in. This reinforced door lock is not only a simple device it's easy to install. I've seen a lot of people put this lock on the top part of their door and I can tell you putting it on top doesn't offer much security if an intruder tries to kick down your door. The middle of the door is the center of where force is met when someone kicks in your door. If you put this lock on top of your door the pressure from the blows to the door will put more pressure to the top area and snap the bottom portion of your door. The force of the blow is in the middle and that's where the lock should be to take the blows. How do i know? because I experimented on two doors using this lock. I placed one on top of my door were I see people putting it and i put one in the middle of the door. I found that the lock adsorbed the blows when the reinforced lock was put in the middle. We kicked the door down as hard as we could, we hit it with a sludge hammer, and also used a crow bar and it did not budge. When we put the lock on top we found that the door frame broke off and the door snapped because the pressure of the kicks and sludge hammer had snapped the door in half breaking the bottom part of the door. It all has to do with physics. This lock is well constructed and easy to open and close. I will say this. It's good to oil up the lock hinge from time to time to avoid friction which will occur over time. Also use concrete screws when drilling these onto the door frame. The screws that come with this are cheap and will break off if anyone dares to kick your door down. Overall this is an easy to install lock and well worth the money. I feel safe at night knowing nobody can break down my door even if they tried. This if placed right will withstand 500 and more lbs of pressure. SIDE NOTE: For extra added protection you should combine this with a metal door strike plate (as seen in photo). This makes it harder for people to break down your door and reinforces your door frame. Overall great solid buy and a must have to secure your home.

Luv it! Very old concept for added door security but very worthy.
Excellent cheap security product and install takes about 3 - 5 minutes. I purchased this to compliment the door armor kit and they both make my home very secure where external doors are a concern. Growing up we had a similar concept with a small metal square latch that secured the door as this product does. This is very simple but sturdy and mounts on the inside of the door jam where if someone attempts to penetrate the door there is no way the screws would come out or the wood would crack. To make this simple I suggest mounting the device on the door jam using the front hole and short screw. This way you can close the door and test to make sure the door clears and easily make adjustments by loosening the short screw and sliding the device forward or backward. You also want to make sure when this device is locked that its flush with the door so that if someone were to attempt to penetrate the door it would not move back and forth. Only one of them did not line up correctly the first time but with some adjustment it now fits perfectly. I installed 5 of these devices, three at one house and two at my other house. Overall I think this is a worthy product and an inexpensive way to slow down a would be home invasion to either discourage a thief or simply give you more time to "prepare". You can also successfully use it as a means to secure a "safe room" for your family to lock themselves in a designated room should a home invasion occur. But whatever you do never have these latched when you leave the house without a second means of entry or someone in the house. An example would be if you use your garage for exit and entry the door leading to your house is your main access to your home. If your garage door opener were to ever fail due to power outage or other reasons you need to have a second point of entry. If the other doors were secured with this product you would resort to breaking a window or some inconvenient way to access your home! Install is a snap and anyone can do this even those who are not handy persons.

SOLID LOCK...BROKEN SCREWS...HOW TO INSTALL PROPERLY
I read other people's reviews (great lock, except for the weak screws) so I ordered two of these for our new home's front door and the garage-side door. And I was hoping the 3-4 star reviews were wrong and I will be able to pull off a successful install. WRONG! Just like many others have said, the very first screw broke off. And after an hour and half ordeal and a broken off screw that I could not pull out, here's what I learned. Hope this helps future buyers and installers. FIRST, THE LOCK ITSELF...the lock is solid and polished nicely (just like the pictures). We got the satin nickel finish and it matches pretty well with our already installed hardwares. I would highly recommend it. (I ordered the "Defender Security" brand, formerly known as "Prime-Line," after contemplating whether I should get the cheaper versions but the other brands had some hard to pronounce names that threw me off and this is sold directly by Amazon. SECOND, THE INSTALL...this is where things went wrong. The provided instructions are straight forward and install was easy, THAT IS UNTIL THE TIP OF THE SCREW BROKE OFF/FLEW OFF. And from my experience, it could have been a lot worse of a problem, because THE BROKEN SCREW WILL NOT COME OFF as you can see in the picture. HERE'S THE PROBLEM. The standard 1/8 drill bit that they tell you to use is about 2 1/2 inches long hence it will not drill the whole length of the provided 3 inch long screw (the lock comes with three 3 inch long screws and four 1/2 inch pilot screws...not sure why they give you four). So my first screw which broke at the tip got stuck in the hardwood stud two-thirds way in. I should have listened to the reviewers, but I took a chance with the impact driver and it snapped at the very first attempt of trying to drive it in. And since it was two inches in already, the plier can't get it out. It will just shred the thred of the screw. They should have mentioned the fact that you need to use an extra long 1/8 drill bit because you are not going to drive those screws in without breaking them. THIRD...HERE'S HOW I FIXED MINE AND SUGGESTIONS FOR FUTURE BUYERS/INSTALLERS HOW I FIXED MINE I could have spent another $10 bucks for a stronger screws that can withstand an impact driver, but I found some #8 2 inch screws and decided to use them instead. And it worked out for us. And I was able to put in another 2 inch screw into the stud where the pilot screw is supposed to go so it was a solid install. I am sure the lock will probably now withstand only about 500-600 lbs of pressure instead of the promised "up to 800 lbs" but it feels solid. and the door is not budging. The lock opens and closes fine and feels very solid when it's closed and there's no smudges of any kind with the black plastic rubber guard. HERE'S MY SUGGESTIONS FOR A FUTURE CORRECT INSTALL (1) DO NOT USE AN IMPACT DRIVER ON THE SUPPLIED SCREWS!!! TRUST THE REVIEWS, THE SCREWS WILL BREAK AND YOU WILL REGRET IT. I could not get the broken screw out even with a torque plier and ended up nibbling and hammering it in so it doesn't stick out. (2) TO INSTALL WITH 3 INCH SCREWS (as recommended by the manufacturer), you will either need to have/buy stronger screws or have/buy at least 3.5 inches long 1/8 drill bit (standard length bit will not work). (3) COMPROMISED SOLUTION...If you don't want to fork over the extra money for stronger screws or extra long 1/8 drill bit (at least 3.5 inches long), I think 2 inch screws or 2.5 inch screws will do more than an adequate job of securing the lock PROVIDED THAT you hit the stud at least an inch into drilling. I am assuming most people will have #8 screws of varying lengths lying around at home and for my install, I was able to reinforce it further by using a 2 inch screw in place of the 1/2 inch pilot screw. (4) Btw, make sure you have about 1/8 inch gap to avoid having to chisel (if you are particular about aesthetics like I do) As many reviewers have said, other than the ordeal with the weak screws, I still recommend the lock. HOPE THIS HELPS!!!

Every door should have one! But not a magic solution for home security.
Reinforcing your entry door is one of the simplest, cheapest, and most effective upgrades you can make to home security. The reason is simple: door locks really only keep honest people out. A bad guy with a screwdriver, a bump key, or just a sturdy boot can get your door open in seconds. At this price and quality, I think devices like this should come standard on every single front door. My usage scenario is to engage these locks only at night. If I lived in a rougher neighboor I would probably engage them all the time. It's important to remember that in home security, you're only as safe as the weakest entry point. I feel that these locks would stand up against a 200 pound guy trying to kick or shoulder a door in - but would the rest of your door frame? What about where the hinges are mounted - both to the door and to the frame - are they similarly secured with long, sturdy screws? And of course, if your home is like most, you probably have a window near your door. For those reasons, I feel the best way to think of these locks is as an extra layer that will give you more time to respond to a threat - time to call the cops, gather your family, barricade yourself somewhere, leave from another exit, access any home defense weapons you might have, etc. IMPORTANT NOTE: these close only from the inside. They can only be engaged if you're home (though of course you can engage them on one door and leave through another). Installation was very easy, but in my case, since I have molding around the door frame on the interior side, I had to use a chisel to create some space. Make sure you position it so that the rubber stopper is directly against the inside of your door when the device is engaged. You don't want to leave wiggle room for your door to develop inward momentum if it is kicked or forced - you want it to be set in place. I mounted two of these, one at the top and bottom, directly opposite the door hinges on the other side. They are easy to operate once you get the hang of the "trick" - pulling the rotating piece to the side, against the internal spring tension, allows you to then rotate it open or closed. It only takes a second once you know how and both of my young children can do it. I am not sure I agree with other reviewers who use this device as a "child lock". For a two year old, maybe - but I would want my 6 year old to be able to open the door if needed (e.g. to still be able to escape the home if the taller people were incapacitated for some reason).

Small but mighty!!!โจ๐คฉ
I absolutely recommend this door reinforcement lock. Itโs a small addition, but it provides great peace of mind knowing thereโs an extra layer of security in place. The lock feels very sturdy and secure, which is exactly what we were looking for. Installation does require drilling into the door frame, which I personally wasnโt thrilled about at first, but it ended up being no big deal I rather not drill the door itself any holes can easily be fixed with a little spackle if needed. At the beginning, it was slightly difficult to open and unlock, but after getting used to it, it works perfectly fine. Overall, itโs a solid, reliable product that does its job well.Definitely recommend!

Easy to install
My husband and I are going away on holiday and wanted some additional security installed on the front door. This worked a treat and was super easy to install. I was surprised at how well it actually works, and it's an inexpensive way to get that extra peace of mind and security. Good buy, would recommend.
