HP External USB 1.1 Floppy Disk Drive

Does what it is supposed to do, but unlike most things these days, it appears well made, and even sounds like a solid device. Kinda' exudes quality for a lowly floppy drive.

For those of use still living in the computer stone age that use (or even know what a 3.5" floppy disk is), this is a very useful supplement (or, some may say, essential device) for the majority of modern computers than don't even come with a floppy disk drive.Simply plug into a USB port, and there you have it -- a floppy disk drive. No drivers to install, nothing to "set." Plug it in and it works.Other people have criticized floppies for their unreliability. This is contrary to my experience; in over 20 years of PC use, I have never had a floppy disk failure; still, one might consider a "flash memory" USB device as an alternative. We may see floppy disks disappear entirely in favor of the latter, and other external memory devices. I purchased a 512 mB "U3" flash memory, which, truthfully, I now find myself using much more than this adapter. Certainly more space economical and able to store much more data than floppies The latter is probably the way to go, except for the most stubborn Luddites.

The product works well, but the connection cable is far too short. I can't imagine many situations where it would be sufficient. I had to buy a USB extension cable.

Using it for back up. It works as advertised. Had found a batch of old floppy discs with photos on them. Have 4 PC's and no floppy drive. Enough said.

Great product!!! Works as expected!!! Great way of transferring old data from those old disks on to your new computer!!!!

The external USB Floppy works fine.It will only accept SMF (Standard MIDI Files.)Will not accept propietary floppies like Alesis,Yamaha, Kawai etc.

Received the item in few days after placing order. Item in excellant condition and works perfectly for my HP Laptop, I am verry pleased with the item.
