ZYLISS Easy Spin Salad Spinner, Large, White

I've been using the product for a day now and love it. So far, I've used it for salad lettuce (green garden variety), strawberries, and Swiss chard. In the past year, I have aimed my diet towards more fresh vegetables and fruit, with less processed foods. The Zyliss enables me to easily wash and dry off what I need and it's fun to use. I am surprised how much water it removes and how dry the green leafy vegetables are after a few spins. Prior to the Zyliss, the drawback to eating more fresh vegetables for me was the washing and drying off time. It seems very sturdy and I expect it to last a long time.

Seems to work pretty well. Better than my crank style ones. Not quite as good as my other "string" one that has a longer pull on the side.

This salad spinner works excellently, but has one rather serious design flaw. The type of plastic that the outer bowl and lid are made of is incredibly brittle and easily broken. I dropped the bowl from a height of about 3 feet onto a linoleum floor and it developed a very large crack. Yeah, I know, you're not supposed to drop things, but it happens, and I wouldn't expect something this pricey to break so easily unless it was made of glass or something. I replaced it with Good Cook Salad Spinner, Deluxe which isn't quite as convenient to use since it has no rubber ring on the bottom and you have to stand there and crank it the whole time, but the entire thing is made out of a plastic that seems 'flimsier' at first with a lot more flex, but because of that it won't break the first time you drop it.

I was excited to try this spinner and it worked fine for the first 3 months...BUT now less than a year old and the blue pull-cord is fraying, leaving a pile of blue fibers after every pull. I fear the blue nylon fibers are being spun onto the greens. The spinner has never been in the dishwasher and is not kept in direct sunlight, but the fraying of the blue nylon cord is a real problem.Amazon refused to refund this, suggesting to contact Zyliss directly.I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS SPINNER.

Overall I like the design. It works pretty well when you get the top accurately seated with the basket. The one big failure was the glob of grease paste on the pivot for lubrication. How am I supposed to was this thing without washing off all the grease. Better design would have been a teflon pivot. I do like how unlike the pump designs, no volume is taken for a center spindle. But I could have done without the grease.

My kitchen nearly came to a screeching halt when 'someone' in my kitchen got a little overzealous with my Zyliss Salad Spinner. You see, I bought it years ago (I believe at Bed Bath & Beyond) and it had become an integral part of my kitchen... it had taken a beating to be sure. It had been warped by boiling water (really people, watch which sink you drain the pasta in!), it's lovely clear blue bowl had slowly become hazy after years of dishwasher abuse, it had been dropped so many times without ever uttering even the slightest disgruntled sound! It took a beating and never complained. But then... pauvre Zyliss was introduced to the man of the house, or rather the man of the house was introduced to my sweet, harmless, hard-working Zylee baby. It was too much... the temptation to spin the basket ever faster and faster while watching the contents being wrung ever dryer and dryer through the lovely clear bowl was too much temptation and no matter how many warnings were uttered from the other side of the kitchen the urge won out until... snap!I felt... well, I felt sick! How would I ever get my dressing to stick to my micro greens again? How would I keep my sandwiches from getting soggy from over-damp red lettuce... how would my baby spinach manage? Where would I now find that ever-so-satisfying pleasure from pushing the brake button and watching the water droplets slam helplessly into the bowl's sides; where would a find another Zyliss?! Would it match up... had they changed it thus ruining all the things I had loved about it?We wandered around from store to store and finally, after months of patting romaine half-heartedly dry with paper toweling, found a near duplicate here on Amazon.Her lid is still clear (and comes apart for easy washing), her spinner spins beautifully and gracefully, her brake BRAKES! Oh does it brake! The bowl design works wonderfully for rinsing other veggies (though the temptation to spin some veggies should be quelled!) making it indispensable once again in my kitchen. Though I must admit, I guard her a bit more jealously now and am considering buying a second (and third... one just never knows!).Some tools should not be allowed in the kitchen... ever. Or at least not next to the Zyliss!!In summation: Get one!UPDATE 11/2019: My review is for the older Zyliss model. Clear blue bowl and lid, white spinning mechanism and WHITE oval spinning handle. If I purchase the redesign I will update review.

I had a smaller salad spinner from a different manufacturer, and it did the job well, but it was just too small. I have a garden and I pick a lot of lettuce each time I harvest so I wanted something that could handle what I harvested - trying to do so many small batches was annoying! This is just what I wanted. It can handle up to 3 heads of loose leaf lettuce in one washing, the pulling mechanism is easy to operate, and it gets the lettuce as dry as any salad spinner possibly could (no spinner is going to be able to get them bone dry). I have not experienced any issues with my dressings getting watered down so I'm ecstatic to have found this!

I find this was worth the purchase. Before, our lettuce and other leafy greens do not last that long in the refrigerator after being washed. Now, they last twice as long after a washing.My only nitpick is that there is not an easy place to hold the spinner down as I pull the cord. Plus, sometimes I accidentally activate the stopping mechanism when bracing the white top area during a spin.The cord seems quite tough.I would recommend this to a friend or relative.
