The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation

It's not that I really hate this book, I more hate the organizations that produces this book. First, I'm assuming this has not been done, but the editors of all the "prestigious" law reviews who write and edit this book need to get their act together and hire a professional company to rework the appendix and table of contents to be more helpful! The information is surely in the book, but it's unnecessarily overly difficult to find the information you're looking for. The Blue Book(tm) indeed has a monopoly on the legal citation market, which is why you MUST purchase it (unless you'd prefer to look like a moron when you submit your documents to the court only to have them sent back because nothing was cited properly...you don't want to be known as "that attorney").Ok, I'm amending my complaint/review. The book is not too bad once you spend around 100 hours with it. After that, you'll get the hang of it and the book is not that bad. Although, I still stand behind my last review recommending that the editors provide a better table of contents and index.

It works for class but if I was to do it again I would get the lasted edition because the rules are the same the newer edition breaks down the category better easier to if.

What can I say about the Bluebook...I hate it because it means I’m working my butt off if I’m using it. It’s a necessary evil, and there’s no competition for legal writing!It arrived new, shrink wrapped, and in great condition.

Absolutely saved my a** in a class (Legal Research) where the book was noted in a syllabus but not listed in the class registration as "required materials". Realized the need after starting an assignment 4 weeks into the semester. The instructor was no help asking if I had noted her announcement in the 3rd week.Thank you very much for meeting your written commitments especially the time of delivery. Teh price was very reasonable considering the pricing from suppliers such as Pearson or Magraw-Hill. (Prices through suppliers were nearly double and that included nearly triple on the shipping)Feel free to edit as needed for vendor relationships! LOL

This book is poorly organized! The California Book of Citations is much better (Red & Yellow book)! But this review is mostly about the Tacoma_Goodwill delivered a beautiful copy exceeded the discription and my expectations, THANK YOU GOODWILL FOR THE GREAT HELP YOU ARE FOR ALL!!

The Bluebook is the most authoritative style and citation guide in US law, so it is difficult to suggest an alternative, as you must follow the guide when submitting articles for publication in any of the 'Ivy League journals of law'. Most other journals require similar if not Bluebook styling. The book itself could be more user friendly with clear examples when stating a rule. Many times it is hard to follow whether the rule, table, or guide is to apply to a given situation. It is in a user friendly binding, which allows you to have the book flat when contemplating which rule applies and then which abbreviation to use, whether the quote mark is before or after the period, and if you want citations or footnotes.

In a word, tedious.How could a book that is required reading be so poorly written and overloaded with useless text. The content on citation formats in unknown countries is just preposterous. "I've always WANTED to know the citation formats for Guam!" yeah, right.Try thinning the fat and split this into a book for U.S. practice and another for overseas. There are more contradictions and blatant errors than in an O.J. Simpson trial. Buy the book on "Understanding and Mastering the Bluebook".It is user friendly, clearly written, and very low on the "Hey, I go to HARVARD, so I am better than you" quotient found in the "Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation"As a medical professional and a Certified Legal Nursing Consultant I walk in both worlds. Medicine is far more demanding and far less complicated than Law.. All the petty elements of form just serve to keep lawyers from feeling inferior. I can jump start a dead baby in under 4 minutes while managing a head injury, a heart attack, and a kid with a bursting appendix in a single 12 hour shift. Lawyers take years, decades even, to try a single case. Read one of my textbooks and I'll read one of yours, but please, anything but this useless spiral bound cookbook. Real books have hard bindings and real heroes wear scrubs.I love the attorney I work with but I loathe his library.
