Book about life in South Carolina
Purchased this book for background on Charleston Garden Tours, but found a great deal moreabout Charleston Historical Preservation and what plantation life was life two or three generationsago. Great resource for gardening in the Charleston area and what to look for when touringthe gardens of Charleston.

Love this book!
This book was more of a life story of Mrs. Whaley but it was such a joy to read you forget there are not many pictures. Toward the end of the book she gives very good tips and information on how to have your own garden, the month she gets started on her garden and how to get the soil ready, etc.

Really enjoyable
Reading Mrs Whaley and her Charleston Garden is like a talk with an old friend. I would love to find more gems like this book.

Mrs. Whaley's Garden does not disappoint!
Having recently had the opportunity to tour Mrs. Whaley's real Charleston garden, I was most interested to read her book about the creation of the garden itself. The book was delightful. It made me wish I had had an opportunity to meet her and talk with her. She was apparently a spunky, confident Southern lady who was never intimidated by anyone! The book talks about the creation of her garden, which amazingly still looks much like what she describes in her book. But the book is more than the description of her garden--it also relates details about her life in Charleston and about her philosophy of life as well. This is a book well worth reading. It is one I will keep and read again.

order and read her book!
I just love her book! Everything, every words and every topics. Her knowledge about how to began and what to do at the end had been so helpful and so understandable. Mrs Whaley explains the why and the how meant to be. My gardens are so beautiful and it make sense of why she does it the way her secret garden survives! I’m a Master Gardener and I’m proud to say that I shared my learning experiences from her book!

Do you like rambling stories from old ladies?
There are two kinds of people in this world: people who like rambling stories from old ladies and those who don't. This book had a lot of potential but just fell flat. Stories are more from yesteryear about how we went around barefoot and riding horses and being a good wife, which is fine but could've used more gardening stories given the title. Editor could have done a much better job eliminating repeats. Very disappointing for a NY Times bestseller.
