Can this be used on a glass top stove?
Can you adjust the thickness of the tortilla? I want to try to make masa boats, huaraches and maybe even papusa which are thick masa.
I saw in a review for the Victoria IMUSA that the handle was not cast iron and snapped in half. Is this handle cast iron?
I can't figure out the difference between this and the Victoria IMUSA

Very impressed!

I was super impressed with the quality of this tortilla press when I received it and now more impressed after using it to make keto tortillas. Last time I had to roll each one with a rolling pin but this press made it so easy. They were uniform also, perfectly round and just looked prettier lol. Plus it cut down the prep time. My hubby looked at me when I first received it wondering what I could be using it for and thinking it was another gadget to take up space. After seeing it in action today he agreed that it was worth buying. The price is very reasonable too. I saw a cheap aluminum one at a local supermarket for much more money. I also will use it to make tostones (plantains). Very sturdy quality - I got the 8” one. Hope it lasts long because I will be using it often.

works for paleo

I read warnings about how the handle broke for people so i was careful not to press on the handle too hard, a gentle touch is all that is necessary anyway. i cut a big ziploc bag along the two longest sides, put my ball of dough in between the top and bottom of the plastic film (thus covering the inner top and bottom sides of the press) and used that to press the tortilla made of water, psyllium husk and almond flour. i have celiac and i try to eat paleo or non dairy keto.i pressed it gently, moved the flattened tortilla vertically down a little, gently pressed again, then moved it around again and gently pressed one final time. the resulting tortillas are beautiful circles, like taco sized - 7.5-8" -- far, far easier than using a rolling pin or a pie pan to flatten them (those options didn't work for me). this was a revelation. it works! i quickly learned the hard way if i dumped the tortilla from the plastic bag to the frying pan, they'd be too thin and break (probably my ingredients' fault, definitely not the tortilla press), they'd basically lose their shape and fall into themselves when i was dumping them off the plastic overhead of the frying pan, but if i gingerly lifted the tortilla with my hands and brought it to the pan with my own hands rather than letting it fall off the plastic, the tortilla woudln't break. again, i am not using wheat or corn ingredients so i am not a typical case.Basically I learned, i need to eat TWO of these taco sized burritos to feel full because 7.5"/7.75"/8" tortilla isn't enough to fill with a lot of stuff. so i end up eating a lot of tortilla shells with not much filling - i'd rather have one more normal sized burrito with more veggie filling. again, not this company's fault. so i need a bigger one and i made myself write a review in case it can help someone else make a purchasing decision and save everyone shipping costs. the company did nothing wrong.could be good for taco shells or if you know you already like smaller sized tortilla, it gets the job done. the box it comes in is so quaint and cute and it even has an extra pin. this item just looks like it's going to last forever, i saw this and immediately put this in the "wow, i rarely see such high quality stuff nowadays." i could see something like this being in my grandma's kitchen 40 years ago and still working today.I've heard if you use cast iron you're never supposed to wash it in soap and water bc it will rust, just wipe it off with a dish towel or something. I'm not sure if this is still true.so even though im returning it bc i need something bigger, the item is as advertised and i give it 5 stars.

Good buy

The corn tortillas you can buy from the store here have so many unnecessary ingredients and don't taste nearly as good as homemade. I used to use a pan to flatten my tortillas before because I didn't want to have more kitchen gadgets. My husband purchased this anyway and it definitely was worth the price and the kitchen space. Tortillas are now even thickness and therefore cook better. I have used it for about 5 batches of tortillas so far. It's durable and works very well.

Love the press, hate the cotter pin...

I ate storebought flour tortillas for years, assuming that making them *had to be* tedious due to having to roll them out by hand.I had previously been very hesitant to spend the money on a press as I assumed that there couldn't really be a big difference in the flavor or texture of homemade vs. storebought. But, after reading a bunch of recipes and wanting to eat them for flavor, rather than just as a method of transporting the filling to my mouth, I decided it was time to shop for a tortilla press.I had been wrong, homemade are amazing and I can customize them by using different flours and other ingredients. This press is heavy enough to make the process simple and quick and I am so glad I made the purchase!I, however, hate the cotter pin that goes through the post which holds the handle on the press as the up/down motion of using the handle, makes it fall out *every time* I use it. But having been unfamiliar with the actual function of cotter pins, I then found that I can spread its sides apart slightly and insert one side through the hole until the loop sets around the hole in the post. It then stays in place, but the tips are sharp so need to be clipped shorter to keep from being poked while using it.Regardless, that's a miniscule frustration and overall, I absolutely love this press. It will last long after I'm gone and is a nice addition to my other cast iron cookware.
